Area HD coverage

Anyone had any experience with HD coverage around Sardis or Pickwick? I'm wondering if it's a waste of money to get an HD radio for the boat.

It's going to be tough...

From what I have experienced, the HD tends to get "iffy" outside the City Grade, and is unusable outside the 60 dBu. I can't think of much you would get -- right now, anyway -- at the lake. Now, if the Rules change, and the HDs get that extra 10 dB, it might be a different story.

Still, the HD radios don't cost much more... so, why not?

Were you wanting an answer or just posturing? I'd suggest calling Radio Shack. You've got questions, they've got answers.

Yes, but they are usually the WRONG answers.

How true. Ain't gonna happen, my brother. Just moved back to our fair area and have tired the very thing you speak of, except on dry land near Pickwick. Not a thing. XM is the way.

I loose all the Memphis stations at various points in Tate county. The only HD at Sardis you will get will be WMAV.

DE, you seem to be correct. Marine HD stereos run from $150 to $450. I suppose I'll do it, but WMAV isn't really what I had in mind.

Michael, What do they run on HD?

They have a bachelor's in ignorance and a master's in arrogance! Radiosaur hasn't been known to posturing about anything, and it seems like a valid question regardless.

While I can't speak from my own experience, just looking at signal contour maps, it seems unlikely that you'd be able to get very much, if any, HD radio in Sardis. After all, HD radio is generally reliable only within the 64 dBu signal contour, and Sardis is outside the 64 dBu contour of all Memphis FM's. In fact, only WMC-FM and WRBO put even a 60 dBu contour over Sardis. So, I'd think you'd be out of luck unless, as DeadElvis mentioned, HD stations get the chance to raise their power.

i was at Sardis Lake Saturday.. the only HD was 90.3 WMAV.

I lost the 100kw Memphis stations in HD on either side of Senatobia depending on the station.
Lost WMFS just about the Tate/Desoto county line.
I think WKNO was the last one I lost lock on.
