WOW! 10.5 minute length Scotchcarts? I didn't think that was possible since they used larger hub sizes!

Wasn't the Scotchcart tape thinner?
For rebuilding the Fidelipaks we used the various versions of "HOT" tape.
Loved that stuff but had to modify the bias and even change the record heads on the old Gates recorders in News. They ended up with the vintage equipment.

I had loads of 10.5 minute carts loaded. In fact, I recorded the last 5 minutes of WNBC and the first 5 minutes of WFAN (the big switch in the later 1980's) in the newsroom of the station I worked at thanks to having reserved a couple of those 10 minute carts in my office. It's all in a standard size cart the same size as a Fidelipac 300. Mine were Audiopaks wound with hot tape.

Yes the Fidelipac's & Audiopak's could contain up to 10.5 minutes of tape. But we're talking about Scotchcarts here. radiorob2.0 stated there was a time when Scotchcarts came in 9 and 10 minute lengths. I find this hard to believe because Scotchcarts have a larger hub size, so there's no way you could cram 10.5 minutes worth of tape into them.

@RobertBass: If they used a thinner mil tape that would surely be possible, but I know the ITC's I maintained probably would have ripped them to shreds. I know I had 5 or 6 minute Scotchcarts and may have actually had a few 10's of those, too. If I can unbury the boxes in storage I'll give a looksee if I have any and snap a pic if I do.

Someone posted earlier that they found three pancakes of Scotchcart tape in storage (the post vanished due to the prior issues with this website). Just curious if that tape was any good or if it's in poor shape?

It's cupped a bit like it's been stretched. Didn't check for shedding just put them in the what to do with it pile.
I think they changed formulas at one time and that's the reason for the color change.

Yikes! Any idea how old it is?

I have some Scotchcart shells here.... Might be fun to try it if you don't know what else to do with it.
