Arizona stations into N. Texas tonight - Monday 5/12

Tonight while scanning the dial I happened to catch 2 Pheonix area stations from Commerce, TX! I am relatively new to DX-ing, having started when I was in the Navy stationed in Oak Harbor, WA. My first and last (until tonight) DX catch was in Oak Harbor, WA in the summer of 2011 when I caught several stations out of Minnesota, Wyoming and Nebraska via E-skip. Unfortunately, I no longer have the logs of those stations I caught back in 2011, but tonight I did take video of the 2 Arizona stations I caught while sitting in my truck. As soon as I get around to it, I'll post them here.

Starting around 6pm to just after 7pm CT:

92.3 KTAR in between locals 92.1 KXEZ Farmersville, and 92.5 KZPS Dallas. Came in like a local for a good 20 minutes... faded out, then blasted back in for another 30 minutes before fading out completely. RDS confirmed!

93.3 KDKB fighting with local KLIF. Faded in and out for an hour, at times sounded like a local! No RDS, but did catch the ID with several Pheonix area commercials.

Anyone from Arizona happen to catch any Texas stations tonight?

Also forgot to mention....some pretty nice tropo conditions here tonight as well possibly due to storms in our area. Picked up 92.9 KNIN Wichita Falls, TX from Commerce. Roughly 170 miles. I've picked it up before in McKinney very weak, but never that far east. I didn't find any other stations. Conditions tonight seemed to favor the lower end of the dial.

Congrats on the AZs. Need both KTAR and KDKB in the log here. Weren't you the one who logged KKQY-KS from western WA about 4 years ago? I was on the same opening (7/5/10) and logged loads of ND/MB, and then Colorado and finally ending with Baja California. Stations I haven't heard since like KBTO and KQHT were logged as well.

Hi Crain,

Yes, that was me! I remember that day very well. I must have sat out in my truck for a good 4 hours that evening scanning the dial. It was that particular opening that really sparked my curiosity about FM DX. I do remember KKQY out of Hays, KS... I'll have to add that to my log again. One of these days I will have to hook back up my Sony tabletop HD radio here at home so I'm not having to rely on my car stereo during these openings!

I've been pretty busy this week due to college semester finals, but I hope to post the video of my 2 AZ catches here in the next couple of days.

Thanks crain for finding and posting that link! I'll have to add those back into my log. I hope an opening comes up like that this season too!

Anyway, as promised, here are the video links for my 2 Arizona catches.

KTAR : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyD8VZS4Tc0

KDKB : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzfX1wGirtE

Can anyone venture a guess as to what station that is fighting with 92.5 KZPS midway through the KTAR video, or on 92.9 at the end that is playing Tom Cochrane?

Loft 54 Interiors at 2:32 is in Show Low, AZ - 92.5 is KTHQ Eagar, Arizona, 65KW. The 92.9 is likely KMIY Tucson but cannot ID for you. They are "80s, Now and Everything in Between".
