Arizona TV Nostalgia

To mark Ted Turner's passing, here are a couple of CNN promos from KTVK, aired after the station lost its affiliation with ABC and wanted to emphasize its connection with another national news organization. (Apparently, CNN was the only Phoenix station not to have a news sharing agreement with CNN before the 1994 shakeup):

KPNX was the only Valley station not to change network affiliations during the 1994 shakeup--and the station's promos at the time emphasized its relationship with NBC:

A 1985 KTVK promo for the station's recently launched midday news; with a change in management the following year, KTVK would drop the Eyewitness News brand and become NewsChannel 3:

Wow...the midday newscast was the first local newscast of the day! Didn't 12 have a morning newscast by then? I thought I remembered one in 1983 when I was here for the summer at ASU (but I could be having a senior moment...).

Not too long after that, Cameron Harper moved to the new CBS affiliate in Dallas-Ft Worth (transitioned from independent). I remember him from there and how he and the longtime female co-anchor did not get along well. It's bad when it surfaces on-air (e.g. talking over each other, etc.).

In the early '00s, Harper briefly returned to Phoenix, where he anchored and reported for KNXV before moving on to other markets. I believe he retired to the Valley a few years ago.
