Transactions

  • The FCC has approved a settlement agreement confirmed in November by a Bankruptcy Court, whereby stations owned by Harry J. Pappas, including KSWT 13.x Yuma, would be placed in a Liquidating Trust, to be initially managed by Pappas. According to the explanation of the transaction, the FCC approval terminates the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy proceedings against Pappas, and he has until March 26 to provide certain funds and other considerations to the creditor. If that happens, then full ownership of the stations will be restored to Pappas, otherwise, a successor trustee will be named to manage the Liquidating Trust.
  • The FCC has approved the sale of KUTV and co-owned stations from SLC TV Licensee Corp. (Four Points Media Group) to KUTV Licensee, LLC (Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.) Included in the sale are KMYU 12.x (9) St. George UT and K07SC Hildale UT.

  • R & D Media Group has filed a major amendment to its application for an LP station on channel 35 at Mesquite NV. The application had been dismissed on Sept. 29 because the transmitter site was 71 miles from Las Vegas, but was later reinstated so that R & D Media could specify a new site outside the 75-mile limit that would still serve Mesquite. As the specified site was 71 miles from Las Vegas, the FCC granted R & D Media's request for reconsideration so that they could find another site outside the 75-mile limit that would serve Mesquite. R & D Media has also boosted the requested power level from 0.1 kW to 0.5 kW. Technical specifications: Ch 35; TL 36-49-56 N, 114-3-31 W (Mesquite Airport); ERP 0.5 kW directional; HAAT -73 m (17 m AGL).

Applications and STAs requested

  • K52EG Yuma (Three Angels Broadcast Network) has filed a Silent STA request, having gone silent on Dec. 31, in accordance with FCC rules requiring out-of-core television stations to cease transmission.

What's with all the Landover 2 channels in eastern Arizona? And what type of programming might be coming on stations like K30MM-D (which I probably will be able to receive)?

Landover is attempting to build a network of LPTV stations, but instead of using the traditional TV model of a few tall towers with as much power as possible, they're using the cellular model of many low towers with limited power. They appear to be setting up along I-10 in eastern Arizona and I-8 in western Arizona, with the network continuing to Lordsburg NM and El Centro CA. I would imagine that they only plan to offer one SD channel, then use the remaining bandwidth for subscription-based content. Landover has additional towers planned for Lake Havasu City and Golden Valley in Western AZ.

So does anyone know the real reason behind the states two PSB stations for dropping Create TV? Not much different contend with the replacements only to say in Tucson "Ready-TV"s presentation is not quite as professional.

I live in Prescott and can receive useable analog and digital signals from Flagstaff,
Williams, Mingus and Mt. Francis here in Prescott. Is there anyway to know what
stations will go digital and which will go HD? Channel 6, KNAZ/KPNX moved to Mingus
and has been off the air for weeks. Will KNAZ ever go HD? Channel 55, KAET/Prescott
off the air, going HD??? Finally, CBS 5, converting to digital or HD anywhere in Northern
AZ?? I contacted the above stations but never received any reply.......

I don't know if you got a chance to read the PM I sent you concerning these questions, but I'll post here for all to see:

K04AI, the analog Fox translator, continues to chug along from Mt. Francis, relaying KSAZ. It may be there until Sept. 2015, for all I know. Fox has a digital translator, K39IT-D, also from Mt. Francis, which has been operational in HD for several years.

K06AE-D, the NBC translator in Prescott, is up and running, and has been for a couple of months. The problem is, it's now coming off Mingus Mtn. instead of Mt. Francis, so the signal doesn't carry into Prescott with sufficient strength to decode unless you have a good low-VHF outdoor antenna pointed at Mingus. With my rabbit ears antenna, I can't pick it up until I get into Prescott Valley.

When Gannett changed K06AE over to digital and moved the transmission site to Mingus, they also changed the source from KPNX to KNAZ. Unfortunately for Prescott, KNAZ is a station that Gannett has been trying to dump for years. They're not investing any money in the station whatsoever, so they changed the station from a semi-satellite with its own newscast to a full satellite with no local production whatsoever and closed down the studio on Vickey Ave. in Flagstaff. Its digital signal is just the NBC feed in 480i, and that's all I believe it's ever going to be. This is a fact-free wild guess, but I'm thinking they switched K06AE over in order to package it in with a KNAZ sale.

K09KV, the CBS translator relaying KPHO, has a complicated situation. They were granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital on channel 30, but they prefer to remain on channel 9. The problem there is that Flagstaff full-power station KCFG, formerly in analog on channel 9, and currently licensed in digital on channel 32, filed a Notice of Proposed Rule Making in 2008 to move back to channel 9, and the NPRM has languished since then. Meredith, owners of KPHO and K09KV, is awaiting resolution of KCFG's NPRM in order to make their move. The FCC seems to be in no hurry to do so. K09KV continues to operate in analog from Mt. Francis.

K11LC-D, the KTVK translator, is fully operational in digital HD from Mt. Francis.

K14HC, the My Network TV translator relaying KUTP, continues to operate in analog from Badger Mtn. They have a construction permit to flash cut to digital, but Fox has not yet moved on it.

K47DJ-D, the ABC translator relaying KNXV, is operational in digital HD from Mt. Francis. The FCC just made them cut power from 7.5 kW to 1.2 kW, imposing a power limit on all transmissions from Mt. Francis.

K55DB, the PBS translator relaying KAET, is operational in digital HD on channel 43 from Mt. Francis. A rescan should add it.

In Tucson KOLD dropped 13.3 sub-channel "news-now". :'(

The last time I saw "News Now" on 13.3, I noticed that it was bit-starved to the point it was almost unwatchable.
