Arizona TV Station Update - February 2015

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

New licenses

  • K33MD-D Yuma (BGM License, LLC) has applied for a license to cover its original construction permit. Technical specifications: Ch 33; TL 32-40-25 N, 114-20-13 W (Telegraph Pass); ERP 15 kW non-directional; HAAT 349 m.

Programming changes

  • KPHE-LD 44.x (16) Phoenix (Lotus TV of Phoenix, LLC) has removed three of the four extra virtual channels from the Virtual Channel Table. The fourth, channel 44.6, began airing SmartLifestyle TV, with video only and no audio, but has gone blank again.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV, LLC) no longer airs infomercials on channel 50.3; it is now blank.

Transactions

  • KVCW 33.x (29) Las Vegas NV (Channel 33, Inc.) requested and was granted a pro forma assignment of its license to KUPN Licensee, Inc., in preparation for KVMY's sale to Howard Stirk Holdings.
  • KLAS-TV 8.x (7) Las Vegas NV (KLAS, LLC) has consummated its sale from Landmark Television, LLC, t0 Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. Also included in the sale was K22DR Laughlin NV.

Construction permits and STAs granted

  • KZVE-LP 30 Littlefield (Hispanic Christian Community Network, Inc.) has been granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital. Technical specifications: Ch 30; TL 36-53-0 N, 113-55-29 W; ERP 15 kW non-directional; HAAT -313 m. (40 m. AGL)
  • FanVision Entertainment, LLC, requested and was granted an STA to operate a digital LPTV station in Avondale from March 10 - 17 during the NASCAR event. Technical specifications: Ch 44; TL 33-22-29 N, 112-18-39 W (Phoenix Int'l Raceway); ERP 0.1 kW non-directional; HAAT 20 m AGL
  • FanVision Entertainment, LLC, requested and was granted an STA to operate a digital LPTV station in Las Vegas NV from March 3 - 10 during the NASCAR event. Technical specifications: Ch 49; TL 36-16-18 N, 115-0-39 W (Las Vegas Motor Speedway); ERP 0.1 kW non-directional; HAAT 14 m AGL

Applications filed / STAs requested

  • KTVP-LD 22.x (Mako Communications, LLC) has modified its displacement application to move to channel 25. The original application had specified Las Vegas NV as its city of license; the modified application specifies Phoenix. No technical specs have changed; the longitude and latitude have always specified South Mountain. The station is claiming interference from co-channel stations KNAZ-TV Flagstaff and KVYE El Centro CA, adjacent channel station KVOA Tucson on ch 23, co-channel application K22JD Madera Peak, and a yet ungranted adjacent channel application from the Gila River Indian Community on ch 21. I am not an engineer, but I wonder what kind of interference they could expect on the new channel from co-channel KMSB Tucson, and adjacent channels KTVK and KUTP, Phoenix? Technical specifications: Ch 25; TL 33-19-58 N, 112-3-59 W (South Mtn.); ERP 5 kW directional; HAAT 460 m.

Canceled, Denied, Dismissed, Expired or Expiring

  • SagamoreHill of Phoenix Licenses LLC has withdrawn its request to transfer KASW 61.x (49) Phoenix to trustee K. James Yager, as the sale of the station to Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., has been consummated. The FCC has dismissed the application.
  • KZVD-LP 30 Littlefield (Hispanic Christian Community Network, Inc.) has had its application for a digital companion channel on channel 17 dismissed.
  • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications, LLC) has requested dismissal of its application to move to channel 14.

I wonder how KPHE is doing.

They've steadily increased their local programming (they have a lot of it, including a local morning show, a paid law office show, a sports program, and others) but as of the start of the month still had stuff from Sonora's Telemax: they took 6 1/2 hours of their programming on weekdays, including their hourlong afternoon and evening newscasts.

But Telemax relaunched on March 9 and became the first Mexican state network to go to a BBC World News-esque format of half an hour of news every hour on the hour. In fact some of the programming they took from Telemax no longer exists, though the hour-long newscasts and one or two other shows stuck at the same timeslots. They also apparently have some shows that I don't know where in the world they came from, like "A Todo Dar" (my searching says it was an Azteca production...?). Either way Telemax has changed their production (at least on weekdays; on weekends they go into an educational cocoon, but that's kind of expected from a Mexican state network) and it's definitely affected KPHE.
