Programming changes

  • K42AC-D 8.x Cottonwood (Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University) has begun broadcasting in digital with the full lineup of KAET programming.
  • K43IB-D 8.x Globe-Miami (Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University) has begun broadcasting in digital with the full lineup of KAET programming.
  • KPHE-LD 44.x (16) Phoenix (Lotus TV of Phoenix LLC) has changed programming on channel 44.3. Formerly a simulcast of the CNN Latino/Telemax/local programming aired on channel 44.1, it now airs Smart Lifestyle TV (http://www.smartlifestyletv.com/).
  • KEGS-LD 30.x (24) Las Vegas NV (Mako Communications LLC) has resumed airing AlmaVisión programming on channel 30.2 after a long absence.
  • K16DS-D 14.x St. George UT (Southwest Media LLC), a translator of KCSG Cedar City, is now airing FamilyNet on channel 14.2 with My Family TV moved to channel 14.4. The station's lineup is now as follows: 14.1 Me-TV, 14.2 FamilyNet, 14.3 Accuweather, 14.4 My Family TV.
  • Aereo has announced plans to roll out service to all 29 counties in Utah. If the article in CED Magazine is correct, then it should include Washington County (St. George area) and Kane County (Kanab), but I'm a little skeptical that service will extend beyond the Salt Lake City metro area. Call sign changes

  • K55DB 8.x Prescott (Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University) has changed its call sign to K43LW-D following licensing of its digital flash cut.

Transactions

  • Mako Communications LLC has received FCC approval to sell the following stations to Landover 5 LLC:
    • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix
    • K25DM 25.x Phoenix
    • KEGS-LD 30.x (24) Las Vegas NV
    • KVPX-LD 28.x Las Vegas NV
    The sale of KNBX-CD has not yet been approved.
  • KSWT 13.x Yuma (Pappas Arizona License LLC) has reached an agreement with Blackhawk Broadcasting LLC to purchase the station and its assets for $900,000. In May, Blackhawk reached an agreement to buy KYMA. As the purchase of KSWT leaves the Yuma-El Centro market with four distinct owners, while eight are normally required for a duopoly, Blackhawk is requesting a failing station waiver to allow them to own two stations in the market. Given the supporting facts laid out in the FCC application, it seems likely that it will win approval.
  • Una Vez Más, the nation's largest affiliate for Azteca América programming, has agreed to transfer its broadcast assets to Northstar LLC, and has entered into a Time Brokerage Agreement with Azteca International Corp., owned by Azteca América. The transaction includes the licenses and construction permits of 31 stations, including:
    • KPDF-CA 41.x Phoenix (Licensed - operating in digital per STA). Price: $31,500.
    • KDFQ-LP 47 Prescott (Licensed and silent). $7,000.
    • K41MR-D Flagstaff (Construction Permit). $7,000.
    • KHDF-CD 19.x Las Vegas NV (Licensed) $31,500.
  • K19CX Yuma (KAZT LLC) is being sold to the Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University, pending FCC approval. The station had been rebroadcasting KAET for several years, after Syndex rules made it impossible to rebroadcast KAZT in the Yuma market. The station is proposed to sell for $25,000, payable in three installments.

Construction permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) granted

  • KUTP 45.x (26) Phoenix (Fox Television Stations, Inc.) requested and was granted a construction permit to correct transmitter coordinates as the result of a new survey. No other transmission specifications were changed. Technical specifications: Ch 26; TL 33-20-3 N, 112-3-41 W (South Mtn.) (Was 33-20-1/112-3-32); ERP 1000 kW directional; HAAT 532 m.
  • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications LLC) has been granted a construction permit to maximize power. The application had been awaiting Mexican coordination. Technical specifications: Ch 22; TL 33-19-58 N, 112-3-59 W (South Mtn.); ERP 15 kW directional; HAAT 460 m.
  • KKAX-LP 36 Hilltop (Tri-State Broadcasting LLC) has been granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital. Conversion must be completed by September 1, 2015. Technical specifications: Ch 36; TL 35-4-53 N, 113-54-14 W (Hayden Peak); ERP 0.022 kW directional; HAAT 1076 m.
  • KUDF-LP 14.x Tucson (LM Media Group, Inc.) has been granted a construction permit to flash cut to digital. The station has already been broadcasting a digital signal via STA since December 2012; this permit formalizes the parameters under which the station is already operating. Technical specifications: Ch 14; TL 32-24-54 N, 110-42-56 W (Mt. Bigelow); ERP 3.02 kW directional; HAAT 1080 m.

Construction permits and Special Temporary Authorizations (STAs) modified or requested

  • K47GQ Parks (Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University) has requested a modification to its digital flash cut construction permit, allowing it to increase ERP from 430 Watts to 750 Watts. The increase is possible following a reduction in power to K47DJ-D Prescott. Technical specifications: Ch 47; TL 35-12-1 N, 112-12-17 W (Bill Williams Mtn.); ERP 0.75 kW directional; HAAT 750 m.
  • K43IE Williams (NW Communications of Phoenix, Inc.) has proposed to rotate its azimuth pattern from zero to 340° true due to interference concerns raised by the FCC, presumably to K43LW-D Prescott.
  • K40KZ St. George UT (R & D Media Group, Inc.) has requested a Silent STA. The station claims to have gone off the air on 6/20 and that the reason is so that they may convert to digital.

Dismissed, canceled, expiring or expired

  • K51HV Cottonwood (Regal Media LLC) has surrendered its license to the FCC. Also dismissed is a construction permit to flash cut to digital on channel 35.
  • The FCC has dismissed a new digital station application filed by Aracelis Ortiz in October 2006. The station was proposed to be a digital companion for KCOS-LP, but KCOS applied for a flash cut in November 2011 instead.

Anatomy of a Translator System

Stumbled upon a 2011 comment by Mohave County, filed in response to a request from the FCC, detailing how Phoenix television stations reach their systems, which stretch from Lake Havasu City to the Utah border. Thought it might be of interest.

Any idea what K40KZ St. George broadcasts?

It was the subject of a trade between K40KZ owners Randall/Adrienne Weiss and R&D Media Group, which owned K34LM-D Aspen, CO. R&D paid $10 to the Weiss family and got K40KZ, giving the Weiss family the Colorado LPTV.
 
K40KZ has never broadcast, to my knowledge. R&D Media licensed it, then almost immediately filed a silent notification so that (wink, wink) they could take it digital. The buyer, EICB-TV East, is a Christian broadcaster and runs K42IQ-D Flagstaff as an affiliate of the Cornerstone Television Network, with no other programming. EICB-TV East did the same thing there: buy a phantom analog station, and open it as an operating digital station.

You have the transaction backward. R&D owns K40KZ St. George UT and is selling to EICB-TV East (Weiss). EICB-TV East owns the CP to K34LM Aspen CO and is trading that, plus $10 to R&D for the St. George station, which was recently licensed.

Look for the announcement in the August 2013 Update. :)
 
I might have brought this up before, sorry if i have but in Tucson i get 21.1 which is hsn but for some reason no audio. I have a Motorola box. My brother picks up the same station with an rca box gets the audio just fine. Any suggestions? It is just more of an annoyance than anything as I rarely would watch the channel anyway.I have tried stuff like re-scanning, antenna position and all.
 
4.2 in Tucson is back to color bars after months of just blank screen, they call it a test channel appreciably like wasting money on that. It was supposed to be "cozi" earlier this year that has never materialized. ::)
 
update, they are now showing cozi tv in the station id bar with the color bars

4.2 in Tuson is still showing color bars and programming info as well on the top bar. I suppose this my mean the appearance of cozi tv is anytime now, or it my mean nothing. fwiw, this new format is horrible on the eyes. I like the functionality of it but arr the color scheme.
