Arizona TV Station Update - July 2015

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

Programming changes

  • KTVK 3.x (24) Phoenix (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) has lost its weather feed. Channel 3.3 is a graphic advertising Weather Now.
  • KPPX 51.x Tolleson (America 51, L.P.) has expanded its Airbox H.264 programming to include several movie channels by Starz, Showtime and ePIX. The audio feed is sometimes available in the clear using VLC Media Player. Too bad they don't offer it to the public. The new KPPX Airbox channel lineup is:
    • 51.313 Starz
    • 51.314 Encore
    • 51.315 Starz Comedy
    • 51.316 Starz Kids & Family
    • 51.317 Showtime
    • 51.318 The Movie Channel
    • 51.319 Showtime 2
    • 51.320 Flix
    • 51.321 ePIX
    • 51.322 ePIX 2
    • 51.324 Airbox (barker channel)
  • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications, LLC) has placed Liquidation Channel programming on channel 22.4.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV LLC) has lost its TeleRomántica feed on 50.3. Not sure whether temporary or permanent.
  • K03FB Snowflake (Arizona Board of Regents for Arizona State University) is broadcasting in digital, relaying the full lineup of KAET 8.x Phoenix. The station has not yet applied for a license to cover its digital conversion.
  • KWKM-LP 10 Show Low (KM Communications, Inc.) is silent.
  • KWSJ-LP 12 Snowflake (KM Communications, Inc.) is silent.

Transactions

  • KMSB 11.x (25) Tucson (Sander Operating Co. V LLC) has amended its transfer of control application, explaining the spin-off of former Gannett broadcasting interests into a separate, independent company called TEGNA, Inc., and why TEGNA's acquisition of KMSB no longer violates the newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership (NBCO) rule.

License Renewals

The following station has been granted renewal of its license:

  • KAJB 54.x (36) Calipatria CA (Calipatria Broadcasting Company, LLC)

CBS 5, KPHO's main translator, K40AD-D, atop Mingus Mtn has failed. It serves as a
source for K30JD-D atop Mt. Francis in Prescott and K50HU-D atop Mt. Eldon in Flagstaff.
It will be some time before it will be repaired. In the meantime, places like Cottonwood,
Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff will be CBS-less......

CBS-less No more......

The good folks at KPHO/KTVK have K40AD-D atop Mingus Mtn up and running
once again, despite daily thunder storms... That means that K30JD-D Prescott and K50HU-D
Flagstaff now have a source and are up and running as well!!!!!!!

Next time you find yourself in Yuma, can you tell me if XHRCS-TDT 30 or XHLRT-TDT 22 (I'm thinking that's what it'll be) are on?

XHLRT-TDT should be on 32, or so I would hope. 22 would be crushed to death under interference from KVYE.

You make a good point. The IFT 2013 table titled "Channels for Digital Television Migration" also lists channel 22 as available, along with 30 (which was taken by XHRCS).

The FCC does not list any further feasible alignments. With the digitalization of Mexicali, some channels open up including 14 and 20. Mexicali 24 and 35 are reserved, and 24 will be Cadena Tres (35 will be put out for bid soon — thanks Grupo Radio Centro).
