New station
KM Communications has applied for a license to cover construction of KNJO-LP channel 6 in Holbrook. The transmitter is located along AZ 377 about 2.5 mi SSW of the junction with AZ 77 and is licensed to put out a 475W signal. According to the KM Communications website, the station broadcasts America One. (Translating KCFG I wonder?)
Moved
Casa Grande's K47FW is no more. Central Arizona Broadcasting has applied for a license to cover construction of K28IY with transmitter east of downtown at the same site as K47FW was. The 9.99kW signal has been on the air for several weeks. I'm reasonably sure that this station was a replacement for K47FW, for which I never could find any FCC information. Central Arizona Broadcasting was originally granted a CP for ch. 27, but was then granted a modification to move to ch. 28 due to interference they claimed to be receiving from KAZT-CA. Their predicted grade-B contour does not overlap that of KUAS-DT in Tucson or that of KAZT-CA in Phoenix. They continue broadcasting America One, just as K47FW did.
Returned to air
In Phoenix, NBC Telemundo's KPHZ-LP ch. 58 is back on the air after about a month absence. Phoenix once again has its Jewelry Television on ACN. (Oh boy!)
And in Flagstaff, KM Communications' KCFG ch. 9 has returned to the air after a long absence, still broadcasting the 1kW signal from Mt. Elden. It's not certain whether or not they'll actually build the 316kW analog signal on Mormon Mtn or if they just plan to go with the digital signal now. They are also braodcasting America One.
Transactions
The FCC approved the sale of KYUM-LP 2 Yuma from Powell-Meredith Communications Company to Hispanic Christian Community Network (HCCN). KYUM-LP had been granted a license to operate on ch. 2 in May, but had not put out a signal. No word on whether HCCN is operating.
Also approved by the FCC was the sale of KPCE-LP 29 Green Valley from Good Music to Word of God Fellowship (Daystar). KPCE-LP had been broadcasting Daystar before going silent (or cutting back power), and was not back up the last time I was in Tucson.
Emmis has agreed to sell KGUN 9 Tucson and translators K16EO Oro Valley/Tucson and K02BW (silent) to Journal Broadcasting Corporation. The sale has not yet been approved by the FCC.
Una Vez Mas has agreed to sell KQBN-LP 43 Phoenix to Phoenix 6 LLC, a subsidiary of Bela. The sale has not yet been approved by the FCC. Almavisión will likely be replaced by a simulcast of KMOH 6 Kingman. (Doesn't KMOH now simulcast KBEH 63 Oxnard CA?)
Off the air
Note: A station is labelled "silent" if its signal cannot be picked up from well within its predicted grade-B contour by a portable TV with indoor rabbit ears attached. It may simply have its broadcast power reduced.
In Globe/Miami, Multimedia Holdings Corp was granted Remain Silent Authority effective 9/2 for KPNX translator K61FB.
Also in Globe/Miami, Telefutura's K16FB is still silent. Remain Silent Authority was granted on 8/17 retroactive to 5/12, and is set to expire on 11/12.
In Camp Verde, I don't think Central States Communications station K18DD has moved to channel 19 yet, even though license to cover was granted for K19FD. Then again, the tuner on my portable TV makes it hard to tell exactly which station I'm on sometimes.
Camp Verde TV Club's K23FZ and K55IY are also silent.
In Flagstaff, translators K35FH (Trinity Broadcasting of Arizona) and K68BW (KSAZ License) are silent.
As mentioned before, Daystar's KPCE-LP 29 Green Valley (Tucson) is silent.
Una Vez Mas' KUDF-LP 14 Tucson is silent. They're supposed to carry Azteca America, but I've never seen the station on the air since Una Vez Mas bought it.
K57BD in Tucson is silent, probably for good. It seems redundant for Trinity Broadcasting of Arizona to operate this station since K54FW covers Tucson quite well from the west side.
From Mesa, Aracelis Ortiz Corporation's KCOS-CA 28 is silent - again. I don't know how these folks keep their Class-A license. As it is, they were fined heavily by the FCC 1 or 2 years ago for not having a studio within their grade-B contour.
