Silent station
- K57HX Mesa (KAZT LLC) is silent.
Transactions
- The FCC has approved the involuntarily transfer of K33CG Sierra Vista from Richard Richards to his daughter, Florinda Mae Balfour. Richards had become legally incapacitated following an accident in Hawai'i. The transaction has been consummated.
- Tucson Communications LLC has requested permission by the FCC to sell KWBA 58 Sierra Vista to Journal Broadcast Corporation, owners of KGUN 9 Tucson. The sale would place the stations at variance with the FCC rules on ownership in a market, but the alternative would be a probable shutdown of KWBA, as the station claims to meet the FCC definition of a "failing station".
- Univision is restructuring ownership of its Arizona stations. Current ownership is as follows:
- KTVW License Partnership GP - licensee of KTVW-TV 33 Phoenix, KTVW translator KTVW-CA 6 Doney Park/Flagstaff, KUVE translator KUVE-CA 38 Tucson, and KFTU translator K48GX Tucson. Both Tucson stations are former KTVW translators.
- Univision Television Group - licensee of KUVE-TV 46 Green Valley. Univision Television Group is also parent of KTVW License Partnership GP.
- Telefutura Television Group - licensee of KTVW translators KDOS-LP 50 Globe and KZOL-LP 15 Safford, and KFPH translators K16FB Globe and K21GC Safford.
- Telefutura Partnership of Flagstaff - licensee of KFPH-TV 13 Flagstaff.
- Telefutura Partnership of Douglas - licensee of KFTU-TV 3 Douglas.
- Telefutura Partnership of Phoenix - licensee of KFPH-CA 35 Phoenix.
- KTVW License Partnership, subsidiary of Univision Televsion Group - KTVW-TV, KTVW-CA, KDOS-LP and KZOL-LP.
- Univision Tucson LLC, subsidiary of Univision Television Group - KUVE-TV and KUVE-CA.
- Telefutura Partnership of Flagstaff, subsidiary of Telefutura Television Group - KFPH-TV.
- Telefutura Partnership of Douglas, subsidiary of Telefutura Television Group - KFTU-TV.
- Telefutura Partnership of Phoenix, subsidiary of Telefutura Television Group - KFPH-CA, K16GB and K21GC.
- Telefutura Partnership oF Tucson, subsidiary of Telfutura Television Group - KFTU-CA and K48GX.
Granted construction permits and STAs
- The FCC has granted a displacement application to move K53GM Williams-Ash Fork (KTVK Inc.) to channel 15. Its new call sign when licensed will be K15HY.
- The FCC has granted a displacement application to move K54GI Flagstaff (KTVK Inc.) to channel 17. Its new call sign when licensed will be K17IX.
- The FCC has granted a displacement application to move K57BO Globe-Miami (KTVK Inc.) to channel 14. Its new call sign when licensed will be K14NA.
- K57FY Kingman (Scripps-Howard Broadcasting Company) has been granted a 90-day silent STA in order to repair equipment.
- KPVY-LP 50 Prescott (KM Communications) has been granted a modification to its construction permit that will allow it to change its broadcast pattern to include communities to the southwest of its transmitter. An additional amendment was required in order to protect the signal of K50CY Kingman.
- KQBN-LP 28 Prescott (Una Vez Mas) has requested and has been granted a six-month extension of its STA to operate from temporary facilities on Towers Mountain near Crown King while it searches for a suitable site in the Phoenix area for its analog station.
- KPHE-LP 44 Phoenix (Lotus TV of Phoenix LLC) has requested and been granted an extension of its STA to continue operating at 150 kW at variance from its license.
- K55EH Phoenix (KAZT LLC) has requested and has been granted a 180-day extension of its silent STA. The station was displaced and was forced to go silent when Qualcomm began its MediaFLO service on the channel 55 frequencies. Although the STA extension is for 180 days, I don't see KAZT finding a suitable channel on which to operate this translator before February 2009, when the full-service stations return one of their two allocations to the FCC at the close of the DTV transition.
- KUTP 45.1 Phoenix (Fox Television Stations) has been granted a construction permit for its post-transition DTV facilities.
- KPPX 51.1 Tolleson (America 51 LP) has applied for and has been granted a construction permit for its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 51, TL: 33-20-3 N, 112-3-38 W, ERP: 210 kW, HAAT: 533 m.
- KFPH-TV 13.1 Flagstaff (Telefutura Partership of Flagstaff) has applied for and has been granted a construction permit for its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 13, TL: 34-58-5 N, 111-30-29 W, ERP: 19.6 kW, HAAT: 474 m.
- KAZT-TV 7.1 Prescott (KAZT LLC) has applied for and has been granted a construction permit for its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 7, TL: 34-41-15 N, 112-7-1 W, ERP: 3.2 kW, HAAT: 792 m.
- KHRR 40.1 Tucson (NBC Telemundo License Co) has applied for and has been granted a construction permit for its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 40, TL: 32-14-55 N, 111-6-57 W, ERP: 396 kW, HAAT: 621 m.
- KMCC 34.1 Laughlin NV (Cranston Acquisition LLC) has applied for and has been granted an extension of its STA to operate a LPDTV auxiliary facility on channel 32.
- K42EZ St. George UT (Larry H Miller Communications Corp) has applied for and has been granted a six-month extension of its STA to operate.
Applications not yet granted
- K25HU Kingman (Gerald Benavides) has applied to move its transmitter to a location near Chloride. Its signal would serve Chloride and Golden Valley. Although licensed, I have never been able to get a signal from the station's current Kingman location.
- KPPX 51 Tolleson (America 51 LP) has applied for STA to reduce its power by half, to 2450 kW, so that it can use part of the transmitter to build KPXG-DT in Salem, Oregon, as described in its DTV Transition Plan. If approved, the reduction in power would take place on June 18. Because the outer fringe of its signal is mostly unpopulated, only approx. 2500 people are predicted to lose service.
- KTVW-TV 33.1 Phoenix (KTVW License Partnership GP) has filed an application specifying its post-transition DTV facilities. Ch: 33, TL: 33-20-0 N, 112-3-46 W, ERP: 196 kW, HAAT: 510 m.
- KSAZ-TV 10.1 Phoenix (KSAZ License) has filed an application specifying its post-transition DTV auxiliary facilities. Ch: 10, TL: 33-20-1 N, 112-3-32 W, ERP: 20 kW, HAAT: 500 m.
- KTAZ 39.1 Phoenix (NBC Telemundo License Co) has filed an application specifying its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 39, TL: 33-20-3 N, 112-3-38 W, ERP: 50 kW, HAAT: 537.5 m.
- KDTP 11.1 Holbrook (Community Television Educators Inc) has filed an application specifying its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 11, TL: 34-23-20 N, 111-3-24 W, ERP: 160 kW, HAAT: 305 m. Given that the maximum allowable ERP for a high-VHF DTV station is 31.6 kW, I don't see how this application isn't dismissed by the FCC.
- KPNX 12.1 Mesa (Multimedia Holdings Corp) has filed an application specifying its post-transaction DTV facilities. Ch: 12, TL: 33-20-0 N, 112-3-48 W, ERP: 21.5 kW, HAAT: 555 m.
License renewals
- KPNX 12 Mesa (Multimedia Holdings Corp) has been granted renewal of its license.
- K30ES Globe (Globe LPTV) has been granted renewal of its license.
- K36DU Lake Havasu City (Richard Tatham) has been granted renewal of its license.
Applications dismissed
- The FCC has dismissed NBC/Telemundo's application to convert KPHZ 11 Holbrook (now KTAZ 39 Phoenix) to DTV. The application had been filed before the 2006 license swap with KDTP.
Expiring construction permits
- The construction permit for K06OG St. George UT (Ivan Nachman) expired on March 14.
- The construction permit for K08NY Holbrook (Venture Technologies Group) expired on March 16. Venture still has a companion LPDTV construction permit in Holbrook, K58IW-D.
