Arizona TV Station Update - March 2015

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

New licenses

  • KLHU-CA 45 Lake Havasu City (Jensen Investments FLP) has applied for a license to cover construction of its flash cut to digital. Technical specifications: Ch 45; TL 34-36-9 N, 114-22-16 W (Goat Hill); ERP 0.42 kW directional; HAAT 45 m.

Programming changes

  • KPHO-TV 5.x (17) Phoenix (KPHO Broadcasting Corporation) is adding Cozi TV sometime this spring. Not certain whether or not the diginet will disappear from KTAZ 39.3.
  • KTVP-LD 22.x Phoenix (Mako Communications LLC) has found a tenant for channel 22.4, adding programming from MiCasa Network. The station is aimed at Hispanic Millenials.
  • KEJR-LD 40.x Phoenix (Hero Licenseco LLC) has reverted to infomercials on channel 40.2, although PSIP still displays EEE.
  • KPHE-LD 44.x (16) Phoenix (Lotus Television of Phoenix, LLC) was in a constant state of flux during March. The station first added a .5 subchannel, but didn't have the PSIP correct, so it displayed as 16.5. Next, 16.769 and 16.770 subchannels appeared, followed by the departure of 16.5. Meanwhile, channel 44.6 has resumed Smart Lifestyle TV programming, with both video and audio.
  • KDPH-LD 48.x (46) Phoenix (Community Television Educators, Inc.) has added an HD broadcast on channel 48.1, while moving the SD broadcast to channel 48.2. JTV rounds out the lineup as virtual channel 58.1.
  • KFPB-LD 50.x Globe (Globe LPTV, LLC) has put infomercials back on channel 50.3.
  • K18JL-D 25.x Phoenix (Mako Communications LLC) has branded the AFTV programming on channel 25.1 as Good News TV 2.
  • K38IZ-D Phoenix (Spanish Independent Broadcast Network, LLC) has added a fifth subchannel. ThisTV now airs on channel 38.5, giving the network a second outlet in Phoenix.
  • KVVU-TV 5.x (9) Las Vegas NV (KVVU Broadcasting Corporation) is planning to add Escape to channel 5.2 shortly. No word on what will happen to the weather sub currently on 5.2.

Transactions

  • The sale of K39KW-D Yuma from Arizona Conference Corporation of Seventh Day Adventists to Good News Broadcasting Network, Inc., has been consummated.

Construction permits and STAs granted

  • KGRF-LD 19.x Gila River Indian Community (Gila River Telecommunications, LLC) applied for and was granted extension of its Special Temporary Authority to operate at 0.3 kW using a non-directional antenna while it awaits Mexican coordination for its application to operate at 15 kW non-directional. The 0.3 kW will not increase power toward Mexico over levels in its currently approved construction permit. Technical specifications: Ch 19; TL 33-22-37 N, 112-13-34 W (Maricopa Village); ERP 0.3 kW non-directional; HAAT -26 m. (31 m AGL)
  • KGRQ-LD 19.x (29) Gila River Indian Community (Gila River Telecommunications, LLC) applied for and was granted extension of its Special Temporary Authority to continue broadcasting at 2.7 kW using a non-directional antenna while it awaits Mexican coordination for its application to operate at 15 kW non-directional. The 2.7 kW will not increase power toward Mexico over levels in its currently approved construction permit. Technical specifications: Ch 29; TL 33-9-39 N, 111-48-7 W (Stotonic); ERP 2.7 kW non-directional; HAAT 4 m.

Applications filed / STAs requested

  • KUVE-CA 38 Tucson (Univisión Tucson LLC) has applied for a digital companion station on channel 42. Its facilities are identical to those that Univisión Tucson had requested previously in a displacement application, and that had been coordinated with Mexican authorities, so it is believed that new coordination is not necessary. Technical specifications: Ch 42; TL 32-14-56 N, 111-7-1 W (Mt. Bigelow); ERP 10 kW directional; HAAT 594 m.

Canceled, Denied, Dismissed, Expired or Expiring

  • KUVE-CA 38 Tucson (Univisión Tucson LLC) has withdrawn, and the FCC has dismissed, its displacement application to flash cut to digital on channel 42.

Programming changes

  • KNXV-TV 15.x Phoenix (Scripps Media, Inc.) is expected to be part of the launch of Laff TV on April 15th. It is expected to be on channel 15.3.

The This TV move is permanent. Beginning Monday:

KTVK 3.2 becomes "3TV 24/7" (the rebranded Arizona NewsChannel), while
KPHO 5.2 becomes Cozi TV

KPHO's weather subchannel will go cable only on a channel to be decided later (though 82 will be vacant).

We're Laffing now! ABC 15 fired up the station a few hours ago. Now waiting on Buzzr and to see what Telemundo does with Cozi now that CBS 5 has it too.
