Expired, Expiring, Canceled and Dismissed
  • The FCC has canceled the license of K31LZ Camp Verde (The Camp Verde TV Club), dismissed its construction permits to flash cut to digital and move to VHF channel 9, and has deleted its call signs. The station has not broadcast for nearly four years and did not offer sufficient reason to justify a waiver of Section 312(g) which allows the FCC to cancel the license of any station that has not broadcast in a twelve-month period.
  • The FCC has dismissed the application for K30QT-D Parker (Lowcountry 34 Media LLC) and deleted its call sign, presumably due to Mexican objection. There is a co-channel station in San Luis Rio Colorado, Son., less than 120 miles away.

Wow! Lots of interesting changes. Thanks Dave.
KAZT's 7.5 subchannel, which repeats "AZ Daily Mix" earlier episodes seems like a
a waste of bandwidth. Any ideas if/when they might add something more worthwhile
on 7.5???????

They did air the Northern Arizona Wranglers Indoor Football League home opener earlier this year. With the 2nd-year Wranglers knocking off the Rattlers last weekend to take the division lead and the league's best record, who knows? maybe that could open the door to some welcome alternative programming. But yeah, for the most part, just airing the morning show over and over again seems kinda pointless, no matter how much you may like Brad Perry.

This is what they want to do, according to my conversations with their management. Have a channel that airs mostly local programming and an occasional extra play of the .1's syndicated programming. Unless someone comes around asking to lease the bandwidth.

One more observation: I noticed a 3.6 added to my TV. The PSIP name is "mpeg4" and for now it's simulcasting the same Circle programming that is on 3.3. Hopefully it isn't a shopping channel or duplicate of some diginet that is already in the market that ends up there.

The short name makes me think it's an MPEG-4/H.264 test. It's much more efficient, but not every TV supports the video codec (in which case you just get the audio).

MPEG-4 was a late add to the ATSC (1.0) spec in 2008.

ATSC 3.0, fwiw, uses HEVC/H.265.

I was thinking that earlier. Is anyone else getting a 3.6 on their TV?

I'd imagine if Gray were testing different codecs or a new encoder, shouldn't they be using their newly acquired LPTV, where jeopardizing the PQ isn't as important?

Mohave County filed today to cancel three translators: K10RM-D, K21EA-D, and K34EF-D.

RabbitEars lists two as KASW and one as KNXV. Presumably all three were really KASW and shuttered because, well, a translator can't convert to ATSC 3.0 in a snap.

Scripps converted its KASW translator in Cottonwood to a second one for KNXV.

Yes!!! I miss their partnership with Cox.
But that wasn't live 24/7. It reran the previous newscast until the next one started. You can do that now with the station's Roku/Apple/Fire/etc. app.

Meredith tried that about five years ago with a KTVK subchannel. They dropped it in favor of Comet.

I find it odd that they've held on to the weather info sub for 15 years. That could probably now be streamed on their app, and therefore they could make room for something else there.

Yeah, with the apps, there are too many steps! It was easier just to turn to a certain channel on cable.

I've been using Roku boxes for over a decade, so that's something I got used to a long time ago. My beef with the app is that the ads that air over 3 and 5 are sometimes replaced in the app, usually by garbage political ads. Plus, there is a 30-second delay between live and Roku, but that's normal for all Internet TV.
