Arizona TV Station Update

As always, comments, additions or corrections welcome.

New license

KTVP-LP Phoenix, owned by Mako Communications (Michael Mintz), was granted an FCC license to operate on ch. 22 on January 6. They had been broadcasting on ch. 22 since December 28.

STA extension

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors was granted an extension of STA to operate a translator station on ch. 7 in Bullhead City from the Katherines Landing site north of town. This is their 13th consecutive STA extension dating back to February 2000. They have an application on file since October 2000 and have been operating for at least the last 3 years, simulcasting KSAZ 10 Phoenix. What gives? Why doesn't the FCC just grant a CP?

Returned to air

KCOS-LP 28 Mesa is back, this time with programming from LFN (La Familia Network), a primarily Spanish-language Christian network begun by the late Rev. Carlos Ortiz, pastor of Faith Pleases God Church of Harlingen TX. Rev. Ortiz owned ch. 28 at the time of his death. His wife, Rev. Aracelis Ortiz, is now owner of the station.

Off the air

KTVP-LP 22 Phoenix has gone silent after just moving from ch. 64 to ch. 22 on December 28. They were getting severe interference from KPAZ 21 making their signal basically unwatchable.

Expired construction permits

These stations had construction permits set to expire in January 2006. No application for license to cover has been filed, so it is assumed that the facility was never built.

K26HD Duncan (Southern Greenlee County TV Assn)
K23GM Holbrook (KAZT LLC)*
K07XR Flagstaff (Bryan A King)
K14LJ Laughlin (Telemundo Las Vegas)

* Assuming they didn't just forget to file - see next section. :)

Filed but not yet approved

K29DK Williams, owned by KAZT, has filed for an FCC license to cover changes to upgrade their signal, especially toward Ash Fork. The changes had gone into effect some time ago; they had prepared but never submitted an application for a license to cover. Oops. The CP doesn't expire until July though.

Charles Townsend III has filed for an original construction permit for ch. 33 in Yuma. I assume his application came out of an MX group. IIRC, Townsend is primarily interested in using TV frequencies for wireless broadband, not TV, and AFAIK, I don't think he's ever had a CP that didn't expire, so don't hold your breath Yuma.

Telefutura's KDOS-LP 53 Globe has applied to change their CP to in-core ch. 50.

Application amendment

K64BV Casas Adobes (Tucson) has amended their application to move to ch. 20, adding a change in transmitter location. They wish to transmit from a site near I-10 and Ruthrauff Rd. which is about 5 mi. north of their present Tumamoc Hill transmitter.

Transactions

The FCC has approved the sale of translator station K35FH from Trinity Broadcasting of Arizona to Jerry Marth of Oklahoma City.

After nearly a year, the FCC has approved the sale of TV stations K24EP Prescott and KQBN-LP 28 Prescott from Tiger Eye Broadcasting to Una Vez Mas. I had mistakenly thought that the sale had already been approved.

KDTP 39 Phoenix and KPHZ 11 Holbrook have officially filed applications to swap stations. KDTP would get channels 48 and 58 in Phoenix as well as channel 11 in Holbrook. The swap is supposed to take place this spring, likely April.<P ID="signature">______________
