Another month gone by - I refuse to believe it's March already!
As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.
New licenses
KAZT translator K29DK Williams has been granted a license to cover the improvements they had made to their signal.
KAET translator K43IB Globe/Miami has been granted a license to cover their move from channel 67.
Telefutura-owned stations KZOL-LP 15 and K21GC, both of Safford, have been granted licenses to cover their moves to a new tower.
New on the air
New station KNJO-LP 6 Holbrook is up and broadcasting America One programming, although with a minimal signal. The tower is about 3-4 mi. SW of town, but I couldn't pull in a signal until I was about 1 mi from the tower. The predicted coverage area encompasses the town.
Returned to air
KSAZ translator K09JZ is back on the air in Winslow after a long absence. I couldn't pull in the signal clearly until I was about 1 mi from the tower. Their return to air on channel 9 confirms to me what another poster had speculated - that KCFG has no plans to build its 316 kW analog signal on Mormon Mtn. Makes sense - with the DTV transition looming, why build an analog CP now?
KTVP-LP 22 is back on - still Almavision. Their signal still gets a lot of interference, but it doesn't seem as bad as before.
Silent STA
KCFG 9 Flagstaff was granted an STA to go silent after their satellite dish was damaged in a storm last month. They filed the STA application after delays in getting the replacement equipment, which naturally arrived days after filing for the STA. They filed a notice with the FCC that the Silent STA was no longer needed; 2 days later the Silent STA was granted.
Off the air
Palo Verde TV Club's translator K29EC Blythe CA is silent. The station had been translating KPHO 5 Phoenix.
License canceled
The FCC has canceled the license for Journal Broadcast Corporation's silent translator K02BW Casas Adobes. Journal had recently acquired the license from Emmis as part of the KGUN package. There was really no use for the station, as it duplicated what is being covered by K16EO.
Filed but not yet approved
The following applications have been received by the FCC. The FCC has opened a 30-day window for filing of petitions to deny (ends 3/25/06). I assume if no such petitions are filed, these will be granted CPs at the end of the 30-day period.
K64BV Casas Adobes: to channel 20 (KVOA Communications)
K61HA Bullhead City: to channel 51 (Trinity Broadcasting Network). To supersede CP to build on ch. 50 (K50IM)
KBFY-LP 41 Fortuna: to channel 39 (Powell Meredith Communications)
K55DB Prescott: to channel 43 (Arizona State Board of Regents for ASU)
K69CT St George UT: to channel 38 (Clear Channel Broadcasting Licenses)
K67HO Laughlin NV: to channel 26 (Smoke and Mirrors LLC)
The following applications have been declared winners out of their repective auction MX groups. The FCC has opened a 15-day window for filing of petitions to deny (ends 3/9/06) with, I assume, CPs to follow if no petitions to deny are filed.
New channel 7 Bullhead City (Mohave County Board of Supervisors) - Answers my question from last month.
New channel 49 Parker (Yuma Broadcasting Company)
New channel 39 Needles CA (Charles Townsend III) - Don't hold your breath.
Applications filed for renewal of license
TV applications for Arizona expire on 10/1/2006; KCOS-LP 28 Phoenix has already applied for renewal of license.
