Arizona TV Update - August 2006

As always, questions, additions, comments and corrections welcome.

New licenses
  • KTVK 3 Phoenix (Belo) was granted a license to cover the construction of their DTV facilities on channel 24.
  • KASW 61 Phoenix (Belo) was granted a license to cover the construction of their DTV facilities on channel 49.

Call sign changes
  • Daystar has changed the call letters of KPHZ-LP 58 Phoenix to KDTP-LP (not to be confused with KDTP-CA 48 Phoenix or KDTP 11 Holbrook).

DTV conversion
  • K59CI Globe (Meredith Corporation) has been granted displacement relief to build new digital facilities on channel 27 to serve the Globe-Miami area.
  • K28EU Laughlin NV (KVVU Broadcasting Corporation) has been digital flash cut authorization

Modifications to construction permits granted
  • KWKM-LP 10 Concho (KM Communications) has been granted a modification of their original construction permit. The city of license has been changed to Show Low and the station's signal will no longer point northward toward Concho and St. Johns, but instead point west-southwestward toward Show Low.
  • KWSJ-LP 12 Concho (KM Communications) has also been granted a modification of their original construction permit. The city of license has been changed to Snowflake and the station's signal will no longer point northward toward Concho and St. Johns, but instead point northwestward toward Snowflake. The construction permit is set to expire on 9/3, so the station may be on the air soon, if it isn't already.
  • KDOS-LP 53 Globe (Telefutura Partnership) has been granted displacement modification of their original construction permit, with authorization to change to channel 50. The CP expires 2/9/2007, but Univision already has the station listed on their website as an affiliate, so the station may be on the air soon, if it isn't already.

Remain silent STAs
  • K23FZ Camp Verde (Camp Verde TV Club) has been granted a remain silent STA. A lightning strike put the station off the air on 7/25 and the road leading to the tower is extremely difficult to navigate during the monsoon. The station may be back on the air.
  • K19FD Camp Verde (Central States Communications) has been granted a remain silent STA also. It was damaged by the same lightning strike as had damaged K23FZ (the two stations share the same tower with K21GE, which somehow seems to have survived the storm) and upon inspection, required replacing the high voltage power supply, which would have to be ordered.

Applications filed but not yet approved
  • KTAZ 39 Phoenix (NBC Telemundo) has applied for a license to cover its recent move to channel 39.

Applications filed for renewal of license
