Arnie Spanier on the Fan

Did anyone hear Arnie Spanier's first night on the Fan last night? I think he came on air around midnight.

I didn't care for him and his NY accent too much. He was trying his best to solicit calls from his 7 listeners. It is going to be another crappy show on the Fan. I have a feeling they are trying to refine his skills to stick him in a better time slot.

Yes, refine his skills. If he is the most talented host on the Fan (which isn't saying much) then why is he on at midnight? He won't last in DFW!
 
I forgot the Rangers didn't play last night and changed over to the Fan around 7ish and it was Arnie and either M-Rod or Pete Stein (I don't know which one). The past few nights he was on from midnight to 1am.
 
The first time I heard him, I thought it was horrible. It was after a Rangers game, and they stuck him on from whenever the post game show ended until 1am, and then they jumped in with JT The Brick. I was pissed cause JT is the only show I listen to on that station.

Well, Arnie is obviously an acquired taste, much like Jim Rome and others.

He sat in for Salisbury today. He knows sports and talks sports which is sometimes hard to find with all the "guy" talk.

The guy does sound as if he's had a dozen cups of coffee before he opens the mic. He formerly was on Sporting News Radio and mentioned today how much he likes Dallas compared to LA.

But, I'll admit he could be like nails across a blackboard for some.

He's on at midnight because he's not local. That's really not hard to figure out.
But, to your original comment, the guy is established. He's who he is. No need for refinement.

Spanier has been in the business for YEARS- I remember listening to him overnights on the Ticket via One on One back in 94 or 95. I don't think you're going to get much more "refinement" than he already has. It'd be like asking Mike Rhyner to change his style.

I didn't realize he was on locally now, though. Pretty awesome.

I don't believe he's local. He could do his show from his home, and the fan could broadcast it.

Tell you what. I'll call the Fan's main number tomorrow and simply ask them.
