Arrakis 500SC

Hello,
Does anyone have any access to schematics for an Arrakis 500SC? It has some issues like popping/clicking when you turn on any of the channels, DC offests on the meters (gain control changes the DC), etc. It seems that the problems are probably inter-related.

Thanks,
Jim

I'll save you the trouble of troubleshooting on this one - check the ICs for the line inputs. If they're the SSM2013's chances are they're popped. While the Arrakis boards are fairly decent, unless you ground them extremely well you're going to blow those chips like fuses. This amounts to 90+ percent of the failures with their early consoles.

Once you get it operational make sure you have a very good high quality ground. I have a newer Arrakis board and ever since I put a good ground to it I've never popped any of these VCA controller chips again - even in a dry environment with people dragging their feet and discharging a static charge to the console body.

Thanks.....a schematic would still be nice though. Nice to see the 'entire picture' when troubleshooting.

In reviewing the specs on the SSM 2013, the datasheet states a maximum -v supply of 8.7v....Arrakis has -15v on this pin (and throughout the unit). I wonder if this is an oversignt, or an inherent design flaw. Could it be the real reason these chips blow.

The 'thump' I hear is regardless of the channel I turn on, program or audition. Also, channel tracking isn't that good from L to R.

Jim
