Arrakis ARC-10U console

Has anyone had any experience with the Arrakis ARC-10U analog console?

Other than the obvious negative of not having a balanced audio console, if unbalanced operation is not factor, how is the quality on this board? I have a edit suite that uses unbalanced equipment, with the exception of the Symetrix DA that goes on the output of the board.

Anyone have one?

Fred,

I'm actualy considering one of these for a small personal studio. From pulling the tech documents off their site it looks good, especially since they're not using the older VCA chips known for being a bear when a static discharge comes along. I'm actually looking at the unbalanced unit since I want to use mostly consumer gear with the exception of the Gentner phone hybrid.

It's going to be awhile before I'm ready to build the studio, but the price/performance point looks ideal and it looks more "broadcast" than a Mackie or similar sound reinorcement board. The only thing I at going to try to negotiate with them is I want them to replace the phone talk swtich from a momentary to a "click on/click off" type so it doesn't have to be held down to send the control room microphone-only signal to the hybrid.

I have a couple of broadcast type boards but this looks idea for use with consumer gear - I may even get one for a combo stereo system / production room environment at my own home.

I notice nobody else commented, so I'm wondering if I should take the plunge or not.

My application is to put the unit in an edit booth, where a consumer camera is connected to the mixer. (RCA connector, 10k @ -10dB)

Right now I'm using a Mackie 1202VLZ-Pro which is good, but it's more of a remote sound mixer than a broadcast booth mixer.

Fred,

If I had the money there's a great deal on an Air2+ console on ebay that ends in the next day or so. The Buy It Now is about $700 less than BSW's price. The only thing that bothers me is people using stock photos for their auctions instead of the actual gear, otherwise it might be a consideration for you if it's not too much board.

I'm still considering the ARC-10U for a project I have in mind. It looks pretty good for the price/performance. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is the factory says you have to send it back to them if you need to replace a slider - why do they design stuff like that?

Yeah, Bill, that is a problem. I'm an avid E-bayer, and about once every 6-months I have to deal with someone who sells an item where it's not what was in the picture, even though the description says "look it over and bid".

I may "bite" on the Arrakis. I just wish I had a little bit better feel for it.

I wish I was closer to my project timeline than I am, Fred. After pulling the tech manual and looking at it I wouldn't have any problem picking one up, since it appears they're not using any of the fancy VCA chips they had used in the past. While I have two of their 1200 series consoles, I like the small form factor of the ARC, which makes it a little more desirable to me than the Air2+ board.

You can always call up Dale at Arrakis and ask him some pre-sales questions about it. He's very knowledgeable about their console products and I'm sure he'd give you the info you need to make a decision either way.

looks like you can get it configured several ways, including balanced.i do like the real VU meters.looks like Arrakis may have a keeper here.
