Arrakis Digilink II (2) Software

Would anyone happen to have either a Digilink II system that is working or for parts that would be willing to part with for a reasonable price? Arrakis of course does not support these older systems anymore, so that leaves the few left in a bind even for parts.

Several weeks ago, my digilink II died. I thought was gonna be a motherboard failure, but turns out after i finally got around to checking it out, it was the IDE hard drive that contains the DL II software. well i have no disk for it. I know that there had to have been some, but i haven't a clue who, and what they did with them.

So, that leaves me with a system with out software. i have a replacement drive, but no software. If anyone has a DL II that will boot, i would like for you to make contact with me. If push comes to shove, all i really need is a copy of the hardrive.

Thanks in advance!
Arrakis is not the greates, but for an AM..... ahhh.....no biggie.

Digilink is one of the worst systems I have ever worked with. It's all DOS based, and file transferring takes forever. I'd use this hard drive failure and lack of software as an excuse to look for something new.

There was/is a digilink II for sale on ebay for 500 bucks .Being sold by an engineering firm .They claim to offer support, but no returns .

Thanks for the advice on dumping the system. Would you believe that I have already thought of that? Yes, it's true. But If you know how the sytem works, and if you know what you are doing; then the system will run like a champ. The key is, to set it up, and let it be. Users come into trouble, by trying to make changes to certain settings, and such. All that needs to be done it, program it and forget it. The only changes are to the audio that of course with radio, are spots, psa, and logs. keep it clean as far as don't keep adding junk like more commercials that will bog done the hardrive. when they are out of date, just delete then as you go. I have heard alot of complaints about the DL's and they were from users that would completely fill the hard rive. take it down once a month at the most on a weekend evening and debug it, defrag, ant etc; and no problems at all.

I don't really care for the system at all, but if you treat it right, you most likely won't have any problems. This system has been in use for quite sometime, as in nearly 10 years or more. Now, take this into consideration..... it has automated an AM station, that has no live programming. So, it runs one format. Sports talk. Thats it. And it has served the AM station beyond the system's expectations. Think about the automation systems that are now being sold. how many do you think will run this way 10 to 15 years from now. I think you will see far less than you may think.

I would personally rather see a newer system, but when corporate owners are involved, getting them to dig in their wallets....... it may be easier to just piece it back together than to go thru the hurry up and wait process. more than likely, you will end up doing the same thing in the long run.....

Thanks a mill!

Thanks for the tip. I saw that too a few weeks ago. they also have another one that has the production end of it (tracstar) for 4,500.00 not sure tho what kind of shape they are in, and i don't think i would spend that much on an old system. I would think 500 would be kinda over rated. but if push comes to shove. maybe.

Thanks!

See that’s the problem. You’re trying to revive a system that is no longer supported. In the long run, you need to stay with a product that retains support.

Perhaps you should look at the Ultimate Digital Studio & Radio Suite System from On Air USA. The system does have a DOS friendly GUI, but runs under Linux. You can run it fully auto, which we do at times of the day. It can handle .wav files or MP3’s if you prefer. It can run satellite automation if needed. You never have to take it down to defrag the server hard drive, as this is an automatic process. It keeps quite a few different types of logs as well.

Heck we used to run both UDS and Digilink, treating UDS like a satellite input. That was before the RadioSuite system was fully developed, and we were playing music direct from CD.

Yeah..... It's unsupported now, but I'm just buying time till there is no choice but to take on a new system. The Radio Suite System, is one that I have looked at. but it would be the first linux system on board here. On one of the FM's, I have Smartcaster, another has the DCS, and one has maestro. I'm looking at the Simian right now, but thats only if I can't get this one up an running soon.

Thanks Robert for your support!
