For starters, windsofkain, I don't know who you are. I don't know anything about your background, so I'm not going to argue with you. I have an idea of who you might be, but even that isn't enough for me to argue with you. The only thing that I will say is that I would love to have a civilized conversation with you, whether it is through an exchange of emails or on the phone. It's very obvious that you have a problem with me and that's okay. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if they don't offer any kind of backing to it.
In regard to Magic Broadcasting, there are a lot of things that have been said over the past couple years on this board. Some of them have been pretty negative and some have been positive. I'm not here to argue anything that has been previously brought up, because 1) it's not my place and 2) I'm not the kind of person to get into pointless arguments on an Internet messageboard. The most important thing that I can say about the people that work on Foster Street is that I consider them all part of my extended family. For two years, in fact, they were my family. Even though I'm not there anymore, I still have nothing but positive wishes for everyone in the building.
Did I make mistakes in my time at the helm of KMX? Absolutely. Were some of them rather large? Yes. Are there things that I would like to have a chance to do over again? Sure, but I'm a big believer in the thought that everything that has happened in the past - big or small - is a significant part of who we are in the present, so I really don't think that I would do anything over / differently. Magic Broadcasting gave me a wonderful opportunity at the age of 24 to become the PD of a heritage radio station with a huge signal. For that, I will be forever grateful. As I said to the individuals that were in the room when I was let go a couple weeks ago, no matter where I go in the future - in radio or outside of radio - whenever Arbitron data comes out for the Dothan market, I will always be looking to see good news for WKMX. I had an opportunity to learn a lot of new skills while I was in Dothan and I look forward to being able to use those skills moving forward in my career.
To Billy, Julie, Bryant, Jon Baker, Traci and Stephano: Even if I didn't show it, you each taught me things in our time together. We may have had our disagreements, but I hope that I was able to give you some sort of new knowledge that was useful. It was an honor to work with each of you and I want you each to know that I still consider you a friend. If there is ever anything that I can do to help you in any way, you guys know how to get in touch with me.
To all of the other people that have passed through the Woods Building in my time there, thank you for being there for me in so many ways. Thank you for believing in the kid from Illinois, even when he needed to be knocked down a peg. Thank you for all that you did to help me learn.
I enjoyed my time in the Wiregrass, but I'm also glad for my new opportunity. Windsofkain, if you really must know, I'm not at a point in my life where market size means much to me. Those who really know me also know my reasons behind saying that. For example, in my new opportunity, I am going to be less than 90 miles from my family, which is more than just a little important to me. If all goes well, I'm also going to have the opportunity to return to school for the Fall semester. My new opportunity is going to be able to give me the chance to do that, which would have been tough to do in my role as PD at KMX. For that, among other reasons, I am extremely grateful.
Competing in the Dothan market has been an experience that I will always remember and I'm happy that I had the chance to do it. Thanks to everyone that played a part in making it memorable.
