ARROW TAKES A BIG HIT IN THE RATINGS

In the latest PPM for Houston/Galveston, the Arrow fell big time. It is my understanding that the morning show went from #3 adults 25-54 to #12 in the market, Overall 6am-12mid, the Eagle is # 8 in the market with a 4.1 and the Arrow is #18th with a 2.9. Dean & Rog hit the top 10 at #7 with a 4.8. How long will CC let this go on before they either change formats or automate the entire station? It is sad because a good classic rock station could come in here and kick a** with these two as their competition. One already down and almost out and the other winning by default. Just my opinion.

I'm surprised that KKRW hasn't dropped most of the "Classic Hits" they play and go to a complete Classic Rock format. While driving around Houston, I heard songs like "Piano Man", "You May Be Right", "Band on the Run", "Saturday in the Park" and "Stuck in the Middle With You" on KKRW; those seem more at home on Classic Hits than Classic Rock. Look at KZEP here in San Antonio and you see much more of an emphasis on "Rock". If KKRW would go deeper on core Classic Rock artists (Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rush, ZZ Top) and bulk up the playlist with harder rock, they would probably be in a stronger position.

KZPS in Dallas is having success with that stuff...Granted, they don't have any real classic rock or "hits" competition. YOu know how CC LOOOOOVES to copycat. I wonder how much pull Vince Richards still has in the CC realm....

so where are all da khits haters now? so much for "d&r will never last" and "how long till cox fires em?"

lookin more and more like kreishen played a good hand. duh.

Clearly KKRW made strategic mistakes in light of the new competition from Eagle. They chose the wrong morning show to begin with. Not that W&J are bad, just their not the same kind of entertainment provided by D&R. Then, KKRW decided to soften their classic rock position to include some of the classic hits (examples quoted above are good ones that need to go) missing since Cox changed KHTC. All the while, Cox turned on their marketing machine running huge GRPs of TV for D&R. Eagle wins the battle. Time for the geniuses at CC (sarcasm obvious) to rethink their strategy. Either it's classic ROCK or not. Move to the position established for many years. Reconsider whether W&J are the appropriate show for the station and make adjustments accordingly. Do some marketing, but first re-cut the vault TV spot. It's really like wallpaper.

Cox isn't going to replace D&R. Despite their signal, Eagle is doing well. Whomever made the call on hiring D&R (was it REALLY Kreishen??) did the right thing.

Watching what reaction CC has, if any, will be interesting.

W & J S**k! But I did notice today a few new songs that I haven't heard before on the Arrow. Keep it up boys. More fresh tunes are needed ( minus the morning show) but please give me some deeper cuts. Not matching what the Eagle does. Be different, be more classic rock and you'll win.

walton and johnson are horrible

they got away with their crap show on am because their audience was a bunch of low education low iq red necks and klansmen. but the fm crowd doesn't want to hear that crap. people want to hear funny jokes that aren't too depraved and cynical. who wants to wake up to that garbage every day.

looking at houston demographics, i don't see how a station like the arrow can survive. i can buy a small ipod for $100 and buy 100 songs for another hundred and have basically the entire library of the arrow in my pocket.

even if you increased the list greatly, just spend another 100 and you have everything that ever gets played on that station. why would you want to listen to radio commercials? i know i can't stand radio commercials and change the station each time they start up.

unless there is something specific in the cities culture calling for it, oldie stations are all doomed to failure.

never mind if you hire a couple of bumpkins to ruin your most profitable daypart
