"Arsenio" Version 2.0...worth it?

Tonight is the big premiere for the newest version of Arsenio Hall in late night. What is your take on it all?

We're getting it here in Hartford/New Haven on both WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford and sister station WCCT-TV (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury/Hartford, airing at 11:30 PM Eastern.

I thought his opening bits fell flat, to be honest. It opened with him on the couch, widening out to show Jay Leno (from The Tonight Show set), as if Jay was a psychiatrist or whatever. Paula Abdul made a cameo. Chris Tucker and Snoop Lion (Dogg) are on as guests.

Ask me what I think after a week.

Arsenio has an audience built in that no one else has. He speaks a language that no other talk show host speaks. He is as real as it gets. He will get guests that no one else will get. He will ask questions that no one else will ask. The show will succeed because there's no one like him. Oprah retired. He is the male Oprah. I don't care how the first show went. This guy was born for TV, and sitting in that chair is what he does. All of us who love what we do are rooting for him.

My only question is: When did Snoop Lion go back to Snoop Dogg?

I was wondering the exact same thing! I'm wondering which studio he's using this time around. I know it's adjacent to KTLA-TV (CW) channel 5 and that it's not the studio he used when Paramount was syndicating the first show.

Right, which is also why it's on WGN-TV (CW) channel 9 in Chicago. I'm still trying to wonder why it was on two stations here at the same time. If anything, it was weird flipping channels during commercial breaks, making obvious which spots were from the show and which spots were the local ones. Also, the advertising was more mainstream on FOX channel 61 (Hartford) as opposed to CW channel 20 (Waterbury/Hartford). The two stations cover nearly the same area, since both are on the same tower in Farmington, CT.

I believe the show is also airing on WGGB-TV 40-2 in nearby Springfield, MA. That is their "FOX 6" subchannel. Back in the analog days, Springfield/Holyoke used to rely on Hartford for FOX (and CBS). Now they have their own FOX station...sort of.

Though they have retained the theme music, one major difference is their announcer...which is a SHE this time (no, Burton Richardson didn't get a sex change)!

But since there's no info on her yet, I'm going out on a limb and say that it could be Stacey J. Aswad; she's the announcer on The Hub's Family Game Night, which happens to be on the same Sunset Bronson lot as Arsenio. And guess who preceded her? BURTON RICHARDSON!!!!!

All things considering, I thought the first night went well. A few of the monologue jokes fell flat, and I could have done without the skits, but everything else was good. I'm looking forward to see what else lies ahead.

Couldn't they just bring back Burton to say "ARSENIOOOOOOOOOOO HALL!!" after 20 years off the air? :) Or does he have too many jobs right now?

According to the intro, studio 6 at Sunset Bronson studios on the world famous Sunset Blvd.

Arsenio was no where near the male Oprah. Oprah was unique, she had a way with most female audience of all races, classes and so forth. Arsenio may be a hit, who knows, but he will never be even close to being in Oprah's league.

Let's face it, if not for Oprah, we'd be all talking about President Hillary Clinton. Now that is power.

I'm not sure what "Oprah's league" was/is. She was a non-person to virtually everyone I know, including the distaff side, and was one of those people who was popular for being popular. Her big claim to fame, such as it was, was weight loss which IIRC, she wasn't very good keeping it off. She is at best a niche entertainer for people who have more minutes in the day than others.

I watched the show a couple nights this week. It seems ok, but many of the jokes in the monologue seem too "cheap" and forced. Almost seems like an amateurish talk show.
