Art Laboe ratings

With all the talk on the NY board regarding CBS-FM's return and the unfeasability of pre-Beatles music for the 25-54 demo, I'd like to know how Art's show does ratingswise compared to KRTH. Laboe's music goes from fifties doo-wop to current hip-hop. Some of the older tunes I've heard tonight include "You Cheated" by the Shields from 1958 and "Daddy's Home" by Shep and the Limelights from 1961. These tunes are timeless dedication songs and will probably still be played 50 years from now. The message in these songs is what's most important. The year of release is immaterial. A sixteen year old girl calls up Laboe's show to dedicate "You Cheated" to her ex-boyfriend. She doesn't think "I can't dedicate this song, it's as old as my grandparents." So maybe oldies/classic hits programmers should not be so obsessed with when a song came out but rather what is the message being conveyed in the song and is the message relatable to the target demo.

Sunday 6 PM to Midnight 25-54 KHHT has about 2 times the audience of KRTH. But you have to remember two things... there are hardly any listeners at all on Sunday after 6 or 7 Pm, and, second, specilty shows are based on a concept, and tolerate all kinds of unusual musical content. In 2005, same book, Laboe beat KRTH almost 4 to 1, so the show is definitly doing much worse than before.

What about Laboe's weekday show? He's on M-F 7 to midnight. Would this still be considered a "specialty" show?
Yes. It's the same format as the Sunday show. It's been quite a disappointment for Hot 92.3.

Although many of us on this board thought it would be a big winner before it expanded to 6 nights on the Hot 92 Jamz (now Hot 92.3), I don't think this "specialty" show should be on more than one or two nights a week.

Here's the Art Laboe Day 26th anniversary photos from this past week http://hot92jamz.com/cc-common/gallery/display.html?album_id=71665

Absolutely. The top 3 25-54 shows 7-midnight in LA are specialty shows.

So, then, they are unhappy that in the Winter book, the station is #3 25-54 in that daypart?

When you expect to be #1. Period. Yes.
Why don't you compare it to Sean Andre's night book, David?
