I find scattered references to the English-language R&B programming at night through 1976, then nothing more in the 70s. Moving the search to the 80s turns up references to English-language Oldies programming on the station from 10 p.m.-3 a.m. as early as 1982, and this piece from when that ended in 1985, which fills in the gaps very nicely:

As a blind guy, I found that page more readable than others I tried to view in the past. The article supplemented my memory, except for one thing.
I don't remember Jim Wood being on XPRS, but I have no doubt that's accurate. Goodness, I even remember Bob Hudson having a (presumably) paid show, I believe, mid-3 on Saturday nights for a time. But Jim Wood? I had to have known about it then, but didn't recall it now.

I remember one jock on "Soul Express" was Tom Reed, "The Master Blaster." As a kid, I found that amusing...obvious reasons.
 
It was either Tom Reed or Michael Paine on the "Soul Express" (I think
Paine) who ended his shows with the clever tagline,
"Stay black till I get back."
