Art Lake has passed away

Neither WPRI or the Projo has the story about Art Lake on their websites yet. So much for those sites saying they have the latest breaking news. And kudos to WLNE for quickly reporting this story with their limited resources.

The newspaper probably doesn't do much on the weekend and Lake isn't important to other stations.

I don't know this for sure but Art may have signed WJAR on the air as their booth announcer, in the late '40's. Which may have made him the first voice ever heard in RI TV? He ended his career in weather but he was really a pioneer broadcaster.

You've got different employees making different choices on what to cover. WLNE used their brain. WPRI didn't.

WLNE has limited resources?!? It seems that they have more reporters right now than Art Lake's own WJAR!

I stand corrected about WLNE. I watch their news frequently and in my opinion they have the best newscasts in the Providence area. Unfortunately too many people I and some on this board) keep their old ways and automatically turn to 10 like they have for many decades, and still believe WLNE is a third rated station and based in New Bedford, which is false. Not that WJAR or WPRI are bad at what they do. I hope that WLNE starts showing an increase in profit and ratings because they certainly are trying their best.

I would say that WPRI is the best, but they could tone it down just a little, followed by WLNE, with WJAR far in last place for quality.

It's too bad that Art Lake had to see his station fall like this in his last couple of years.

Fortunately, for Art, I imagine that his health problems prevented him from fully comprehending the decline of the once-mighty WJAR.

Me too - of course, they have to pay the Paramount piper first...
