Art Martinez of FSR's The Drive

I had the misfortune of being away from my computer earlier this afternoon, and was forced to listen to The Drive instead of streaming Petros' show. Anyway, B. Cox opened the show by blasting "that rat" Art Martinez (former engineer for the show, and he engineered Kiley & Booms back in the day as well) and Myers mentioned the "unfortunate circumstances" surrounding Art's leaving FSR.

Anyone know what happened? Cox was especially bitter, as if Art had disclosed confidential info about him.

I heard the show... Cox was blasting "a rat." Which is the reason Art was fired. That's how understood it when they were talking about it to begin the show.

FOX is in a shambles right now, they just lost David Stein to Sporting News Radio. David had been hosting the Extravaganza since FOX tossed Van Earl Wright. That time slot has been a revolving door since Bruno left in the summer of '03. Add to that, until Chris and B-Cox teamed up on the drive, that time slot has also been merry-go-round of hosts since the departure of Kiley and Booms. It seems like the network is in trouble with people getting disenfranchised with ownership/management and apparently, Art must have disclosed something he shouldn't have, it got back to management and he's gone. Ad to FOX's trouble, their former marquee host Tony Bruno is now on Sporting News Radio, adding more markets all the time and spanking FOX in the time slot where they go head to head.

I understood "the rat" to be Artie himself. I may be wrong though.

The thing is-

I'm thinking David Stein's departure was addition by subtraction.

The thing is- and I like Tony Bruno- but they may have three bigger names in their fold now in Rome (okay, he's not FOX per se, but certainly his show is on so many of their stations it's hard to argue one hand doesn't wash the other)- J.T. the Brick, and Scott Ferrall.

If they could get rid of Andrew Sisliano- who adds absolutely nothing- then I think FOX could get back on track.

I know I didn't tune in this morning because Ferrall wasn't on. I will if and when he returns to the time slot.

The rat was not Art Martinez. Art was fired because Ashwood's boy, Chris Morales was evesdropping on a conversation Art was having with another host in the main studio. The studios at Fox are bugged and Morales regularly listens in to the feed so he can dig up dirt on his co-workers. Art made a comment about Krystal, Morales told Andrew Ashwood, and Art was fired.

Great info once again, sportsland, thanks. I only wish you would post more often...I recall from your earlier posts that you have a friend who is an insider at Premiere.

This latest fiasco at FSR should do wonders for the morale on Capt. Asswood's sinking ship. Art was obviously well-liked...look what Ben Maller at benmaller.com wrote about him:

"Art Martinez, veteran sports radio engineer, has exited Fox Sports Radio after a long run. Martinez is the best board operator in Los Angeles according to Ben Maller and is looking for his next gig. If you are a radio programmer and want the finest you can get a hold of Artie via e mail at [email protected]"
