Arthur Chi'en returning to TV

A local television reporter, dumped immediately by WCBS in May after using an obscenity during a live report, was hired Wednesday by a competing station.
Arthur Chi'en will debut on WPIX-TV next Monday - three months after he was fired for his four-letter outburst on-air.
He was reporting from outside a subway station in Manhattan when fans of XM Satellite Radio jocks Opie & Anthony stood behind him making obscene gestures and holding a sign promoting the radio show.
Chi'en turned to them and used an obscenity as they fled.
He was immediately dismissed after the May 19 incident.

No doubt Arthur will be the target of the same group of humanoids on his first live shot.

Hopefully, Arthur will have a can of mace handy to efficently disperse the punks from the scene......

How about Arthur just acts professionally, keeps his self-control, and keeps his obcenity laced outbursts to himself until he is sure the camera is off??

The "humanoid" as you called him wasn't doing anything wrong.
Edited by AllForADeuce on 08/30/05 06:03 PM.

Really. Teasing someone on camera isn't wrong? Theft isn't wrong? Keep in mind here that those brainless morons were airing a commercial without consent and without paying for it. They should have been sued.

The homeless doing the card thing is SO FAR FROM NEW, but I amnot condoning it, it is theft and should be confronted.

Teasing someone on camera? They were behind Arthur, never called him by name,, never touched him, nothing...they were yelling behind the scene. Did you see it? Is yelling behind a camera so new? What about calling on your cell, beeping your horn or waving behind the camera? Arthur was too quick on the gun and misjudged the timing of the camera going off-air. Pure and simple. THAT is what got him canned.

Advertising without paying? So are you filing suit against everyone that walks by a camera and points to their hat's Yankee logo? Or how about the morning television shows that says something other than "I am from Topeka, Kansas"?? The "assault on the media" has gone on for a long time with those guys (way prior to XM) and unlike Arthur, some handle yet another on camera disruption with a bit of professionalism.

Plain and simple, Arthur made an error in judgement and was highly unprofessional with his language. Also note that Arthur was the only one of the three on camera to use profane language.

Who's arguing what got him canned? He did make a mistake, no question. I think having him fired was overkill, but that doesn't have anything to do with anything I was talking about, so let's move on.

And again you're wandering off topic. Reminder: the topic is the brain-dead idiots that got Mr. Chi'en ticked off.

The other examples you mention are incidental broadcasts. The idiots under discussion here used guerrilla tactics and intentionally went out and sought out vehicles to deliver their message. That is cold, calculated and deliberate. Very different from what you describe.

But I'm in a generous mood so I'll give you an example that you should have used. Take NBC's Studio 1A that "Today" uses. Presumably NBC has some security people there to make sure that nobody gets out of control. I have no idea what their policies are about signs and what they may or may not say, but if someone was told to go away because something was deemed inappropriate and they did it anyway, they deserve the same fate.
