Article about WJRZ makes it on NY Daily News

It's current with the news about Pulse 87 returning, but months old with the news about WJRZ, and anyone with common sense would know that having a 98.5 in New Brunswick is impossible with a class B 98.7 just 30 miles away.

Common sense to someone common to radio. Newspaper people rarely know anything about radio.

You can tell an article that is "rip 'n read" and one that is written for radio.

Criticize them if you want, but at least they actually covered the format change. To my surprise, I didn't see a single mention of it in the Asbury Park Press. APP did a great job covering the G Rock format change to Hit 106, but we didn't get a single mention of losing the only local Classic Hits station for a third local Soft Rock format. In some ways, this move was as disappointing as losing alternative rock for even more Top 40, most notably for replacing the local morning show with one from Middlesex/Somerset County! I wonder if they also tell us how awful the traffic is on Route 1, and what the Mayor of Edison is up to! Yeah, just what those of us at The Shore want to hear! But I digress. Equally disappointing: for all the boasting about "variety", not only is the music soft and sleep-inducing, it's also the same old thing we can hear on WOBM, WFPG, WWZY/WBHX, WLTW, WWFS, and WBEB! Thanks a lot, Greater Greedia! Thanks for nothing.

It is not criticizm, it is observation. The immmediacy of radio & TV is in direct competition to the newspaper. Newspaper people don't care unless it is something they are interested in.

Somebody in Lacey or Berkeley Townships probably won't care any more about Somerset than somebody in AC about a new car sale in Neptune (Hit 106.3/.5).

But then again, I get more annoyed at Bloomberg, the Imperial Mayor, who matters even less.

Actually, there WAS an article in the APP about JRZ, albeit it was small and maybe you didn't see it ..
It was a little blurb on the Business page ...
The highlight of the "article" (if you want to call it that) was Dan Finn's quote about the format change, saying it "wasn't a cost-cutting move" ...

Whenever someone says "it's not the money, IT IS the money!"

I wonder how Dan Finn feels being compared to a Charlie Daniels' musical instrument?
