article: After Cumulus Takeover, Surviving Staffers Wonder

NOW WHAT?After Cumulus Takeover, Surviving Staffers WonderTo no one's surprise, substantial sackings have now occurred at the former Susquehanna Radio properties taken over today by Cumulus Media of Atlanta. Even with advance warning, why wasn't the bloodshed any easier to watch? http://insideradio.com/pdheadlines.asp?phid=429544&PT=Today%27s+Top+Stories
Great story... I like that guy Brian. Biggest thing that stood out to me, was the fact that they just fired people to fire them. That they didn't do ANY consulting on who should go, and who should stay. If you're going to rebuild, at least figure out who's going to the party, and who ain't!

The only engineer in Atlanta let go was a remote tech. The IT guy is actually the new contract engineer for the Dickey family stations in Atlanta. My guess is that engineering in other markets may have had a sweet buyout "retirement"....especially if they had 30 years under their belt. Most engineers have no taste for corperate clown games.....if you had a way out you probably would take it. Even Cumulus knows how difficult it is to find engineers.....the guys who can actually fix the transmitter....not the guy who sets up the remotes and hands out the teeshirts. I would be surprised if they just blew off such rare talent!

That is not correct. Johnny Bridges was let go and he was was of the core engineers at 99X for as long as I've known the station. Johnny was no remote tech!

I remember Johnny from the Y106/Y104 days. I dont see him meshing in the corporate culture.

You have got to be kidding??!! Bridges is one of THE most talented engineers east of the Mississippi!! Only a complete, unabridged dullard would send Johnny to the showers......So that leaves the chief and Helbush to keep it goin'......I know Bob can do the job but I don't know about the chief....I think he did mainly studio stuff. I don't think he knows much about RF.....Well.....even I am wondering now how Lew and David got rich.....certainly they understand how hard it is to find guys like Johnny!!Simply unbelievable!!!
