Article: Lawmakers say airwaves sale should aid public safety

Republicans on a congressional panel Tuesday said the Federal Communications Commission should re-auction a block of public airwaves to the highest bidder and turn the proceeds over to public safety professionals to fund a nationwide emergency communications network.

O.K. We need some input on this one! Would this be something akin to what XM Radio has on their channel 247 called "Emergency Alert?"
