Article: New TV Advertisements Shock Viewers

(From "VOA News")Called 'shock ads,' they use disturbing images -- such as actual car crashes -- to sell consumer products. Marketers say the shock approach has been used for decades. But as VOAs George Dwyer reports, some critics see these new ads as distasteful and perhaps even manipulative.Read or view this article at the following link: http://www.voanews.com/english/2006-05-19-voa47.cfm

Car crashes and other dangerous stunts have been used to sell movies and TV shows for generations. I'm not sure I see much of a difference. I guess I've been desensitized to car crashes because what I noticed about the commercials was their use of the actor/actress saying "Holy sh--". (They cut it off too.)I suppose it doesn't say as much about the advertisers that they use such tactics as it does about the public if such advertising works.
