Re: Great article about Ron Chapman...

He speaks of connecting with people through trust, knowing that the "people at the radio station" won't lie to or mislead people. That trust could account for the quarter million or so dollars that arrived at KVIL in the late 80's when Chapman went on the air and said, "Send us $20." Ostensibly because listeners had a high degree of faith in Chapman and the station they responded as they did. Some even called wanting to send MORE than $20. Perhaps an ounce of trust is worth a ton of hype.

Re: Great article about Ron Chapman...

I never could figure out that 20 dollar thing. I remember when the announcement came out. People were even leaving $20.00 in Susie's van until they said "no more!" I personally didn't give but so many did. I remember when Sandi Hopkins died and they decided to have that library done for her at the SPCA on Industrial, I gave some money and ended up getting an invitation to a really nice place at the Anatole. We were then transported by bus over to the SPCA to see the new library. Everyone on the bus was a $20.00 club member but me. I then decided this was something bigger than anyone could describe. Wasn't he in People Magazine also? No matter what the inside people thought of him; there are legions of fans who will miss Ralph!

Ron, eventhough he has his flaws, has a good heart. I like his views on Dallas politics..wonder if he'll ever run for office?

Again, the answer is "trust." That was Chapmn's connection to people.
