Article on WPSB

In reference to demise of "The People's Station" :

"We weren't able to get any Arbitron ratings in a year's time," [David] Dubose said. "We gave it time, but it just didn't happen."

That's a convenient excuse IMO considering the black-themed news/talk format had been on only a year. That's not nearly enough time to 'grow' a new station. Methinks KPI Latino's steady checks likely had more to do with the switch.

It probably wouldn't have mattered how long Cox gave WPSB to grow. It was doomed to begin with, having to compete against 3 other talk stations already in place in Birmingham. And you can't really blame Cox either if their reasoning for dumping the format was for those "steady checks". They obviously weren't getting anywhere with the talk format (or any of the other formats they've attempted on 1320 in the past).
