Article: Who really owns "Route 66" and "Naked City?"

That is a question there, since Sony Pictures Television is supposed to be the owner of both shows. But in recent years, they had to give up the rights to Donna Reed, Father Knows Best and The Monkees to third party groups. Plus, some of the shows they were releasing on DVD went through other channels like Shout Factory.

But this is nothing new, since there have been several programs or franchises that one studio owns physical rights to end up going to other studios. It all depends on who holds the licensing rights.

Father Knows Best and The Monkees are currently on Antenna TV and I've seen the Sony Pictures Television logo at the end of those programs....Who owns those programs now?

...as far as I can tell, Sony didn't ever lose copyright control of The Monkees' TV series or their 1968 theatrical film HEAD. Columbia Pictures lost control of The Monkees' records when they sold off their record label, Bell Records (into which The Monkees' Colgems label had been merged circa '71), to Clive Davis in 1975 and he renamed the label Arista; Arista was later bought out by BMG, which in turn sold The Monkees' record catalogue to Rhino Records, and Rhino has since been bought out by Time Warner. Rhino had also bought home video rights to both the TV series and HEAD, which went with the label to Time Warner ownership, so that's probably where the erroneous idea that Sony had lost control of the series came from...
