Articles on the possible format flips

From Today's Daily News
A sad day for Sunny, WJJZ

Tears flowed yesterday at the Bala Cynwyd offices of Smooth Jazz 106.1 and Sunny 104.5. The on-air staffs of both stations were fired starting at 8:15 a.m., and other employees, from producers to receptionists, were let go as well.

Both stations are expected to flip formats soon, but nobody's saying what they'll broadcast.

A Clear Channel representative said only that a major announcement is coming this week
Please post all articles on this MAJOR breaking story in Philadelphia Radio in this thread.

Excuse me, but if Sunny's airstaff is gone and they are now "jockless", how come we still have Donna Rowland on right now at 12:58 PM and they are still running promos for tomorrow's John Tesch program?

Fill us in on the latest rumor if you please.

Voice track, and John Tesh isn't a Sunny employee. If sunny wasn't to flip until tommorow afternoon, they would still air his show tommorow morning. I guess techically, they could continue airing his show even after a format flip, but it wouldn't fit in well with too many formats.

Not that I've ever listened to JJZ for an extended period of time, but Frank Childs' last break sounded very generic. Is/was he at JJZ or "imported"? One would think he'd have a copy of the daily music log furnished to him if he was still actively involved.

From Today's Inquirer from Michael Klein:
Sunny 104.5 and Smooth Jazz 106.1 will cease to exist at some point today as Clear Channel Radio prepares to reformat the two stations.

Company officials chose not to talk yesterday, but word is that WJJZ-FM (106.1) - for 13 years the home of Dave Koz and David Sanborn - will flip to a format known in the trade as "rhythmic adult-contemporary," an up-tempo mix of dance music aimed primarily at adult women.

If WKTU (103.5), a sister station in New York, is any indication, here's a sample: Michael Jackson's "Rock With You," Rihanna's "Unfaithful," Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie," and Madonna's "Sorry."

Clear Channel is not expected to announce plans for 104.5 - a light-rock station known for playing Christmas music in the fall - for a week or so. It's not clear what will air until then.
