Artistic Broadcasting

eventually they will sell when they can find the right multiple and the industry will be better served.

Right, but that will be on their schedule, not anyone else's. And they might sell to Cumulus or some even worse outfit. There were a lot of bad owners who sold to Clear Channel. Anyone who pays "the right multiple" is going to want to make that money back. They probably won't do it by spending a lot of money.

My point is that owners do what they want, and it often isn't what's best for radio.

"Art & junior need to get out of the radio business--period!"

Wow! If you have it figured out so well, then Just give the Angotti's the money they want and it can be all yours to run. Why crab and be a wannabee, when you can be in your own business.

But, if the day would ever come that they would sell, which I can't see; daddy would have to buy little artie and new sandbox to play in. And what would that be, maybe a surgery center or something like that.

How many screen names Artie? Don't you hate being called Artie? At least like an earlier post suggested dad didn't buy you a surgery center. Your people skills are incredibly gifted to make so many loathe you. Artie and broadcasting and a 1 car funeral. Theory of apathy.

Wow, you guys are brutal on Arthur! Is it possible you guys are adding a little to this tale? I know they were looking for a Market Manager in one of their markets and certainly don't think this tread is going to help them find one. Maybe good old Dad needs to get back into the picture. I also wonder why the other Managers have not been successful, their stations seem to have some numbers?

Actually, it's finding someone dumb enough to lend the money. The same mentality that created the housing boom/bust created these "radio empires"; you know "No Credit, No Problem".

That's the American way, as evidenced by the government, which has put the country into a multi-trillion dollar debt that dwarfs anything the banks or investment companies did. In God we trust, all others pay cash.

Wow! I've never seen so many people defend Artistic Media Partners. Kind of refreshing.

To put things into perspective from an outsider who knows a bunch of former AMP employees, some bitter and some even-tempered coming from various departments within the company, they've all had issues with the management in one way or another...ranging from no promotion money to complete changes/retractions in station directions/decisions to just poor hires. The multiple format changes and frequency flip-flops alone drove a couple of them away. This is why AMP seems to have an awful reputation as being an unstable place to work.

That being said however, I have noticed that ever since Arthur has taken over as CEO, the turnover does seem to be a lot less than what it was when his dad was in the position and the knee-jerk changes have mellowed down substantially. AMP may actually be getting on the right track to fixing its reputation.

Apollo, I don't know how you could possibly think that when they just lost their most successful, longest term market manager in their history. Sandy was a gem who had learned how to deal (cope) with them. They just lost another manager and sales manager in SB.

Well, Apollo does have a point, I guess. We used to read one of the following on this board at least 8 times a year:
(1) Station fires PD of the Rocket
(2) Market Manager needed in Lafayette - Artistic Media
(3) Market Manager needed in South Bend - Artistic Media
(4) Artistic Station in South Bend flips formats
(5) Artistic Station in Lafayette flips formats

Before this March, it had been about a year since any of these had been posted.

Lurkerjock has a point, but PTBoardOp pointed out where I was going with my post. Where smudges are still present with the company's reputation, you definitely don't hear much about someone getting blown out of AMP nearly as often as you used to.

That being said, I would still recommend anyone looking into AMP for employment to proceed with caution as the negative feedback outweighs any positive feedback I've heard about the company by a landslide.

One of the (gasp!) positives I've heard about AMP (as compared to Publicly Traded Broadcasting Companies) is that AMP has very little debt, as compared to "the big boys."

I can't comment on the HR moves made by Father or Son, as I have no insider knowledge of the company.

Someone once told me that they struggled to generate sufficient revenue in Ft. Wayne, but that's hindsight (always twenty twenty), as AMP exited that market.

Apollo don't forget the lawsuits. ;D Turnover may be lower a lot fewer people actually working at the stations positions remain unfilled. Sandy a gem? The most successful ever. HA. , lower debt than the big boys? start mumbling. Oh by the way just had to say HI to Artie.

A Facebook post last week announced the excitement about long time Artistic "Rocket" manager Fred Stewart leaving to become sales manager at International Sports locations. Said he was to start last Wed. I'm told it was from a source very close to International.

Lower debt than the big boys? This is relevant to the casualty roster how? This is relevant to new employees who can expect a living nightmare how?

Had a discussion with a gm recently about Artie and the dirty tricks . Yeah, where radio is headed? Hope not.

The AMP group is an awful company. They sh*@ on employees and the whims of Art are frequent and without regard for his son. Arthur is a nice kid but in over his head. The reason that the posts about this company is not as frequent as it once was, is that not many care. In an environment where broadcasters still want to do 'radio,' those that are working are doing what they can to succeed. Those that are not working, due to downsizing or insane management are trying to find a place to connect with radio again. I think many know to steer clear of AMP. They have hired people to lead their operations and gave them the "keys to the car"---only to yank the keys back due to their own short-sightedness, incomptence, or inability of strategic positioning of any of their stations. U93 could be even better without their intereference. WAZY has been pre-empted by the Schurz top 40 due to neglect at AMP. They lost their ass on Ft Wayne selling those properties at a huge loss. Art has amassed his money from other ventures and used that to leverage financing on the radio properties. They make money in South Bend and Bloomington, however, the question is, at what cost? The personnel changes and unsubstantiated format changes, as well as format changes that SHOULD have happened that didn't, shows just the tip of the iceberg on this company. If you wish to defend AMP, I suggest you work for them and see if your opinion changes. Odds are great that you will no longer be carrying their banner high.
