However, Baumann's list of colors is incomplete. Based on what I've seen on his shows, I think he has a yellow (probably cad yellow), a red (unless he meant crimson), and an orange color...Does anyone know his complete palette?

My.

God...... I nominate this as the most obscure topic ever in the history of the interwebs.

True, Kent. However, I woudn't be surprised if there isn't a science involved with this, and the poster is probably an expert. Stranger things have happened on these "interwebs".

Oh, come on now, where are your "happy little trees"? ::)

Let's say a happy little tree lives...Oh, right about here. Obscure or not, any thread that makes me think of Bob Ross is A-OK.

Hooker's green...(Rips envelope open, blows into it) Where does Tiger Woods practice his putts?

Speaking about TV artists, who was that crazy beret wearing speed artist who used to appear during the last few minutes of the old Joe Franklin show on WOR TV back in the late 80's? He used a stop watch or timer, painted a complete oil painting and framed it in less than 60 seconds or some other time limit. They looked quite good, too.

Here's some more of Stefan Baumann's colors:
- Cad Yellow Medium
- Cad Yellow Light
- Yellow Ochre
- Naples Yellow

I figured he'd hafta have at least one yellow sometime, although I still can't certain that's his entire palette. No other artist displays their colors like Bob Ross did...

Whoops! I left out one artist: Gary Jenkins, host of The Beauty Of Oil Painting. He's the one that operates out of Reno and in the episodes I saw on Create, he painted mostly florals and wild animals...

One of the artists Bill Alexander had featured on his show was Robert Warren. Apparently, according to his website robertwarrenartloft.com, Mr. Warren uses Prima brand oil paints as well as the acrylic-based primer known as "luminous orange"....

My tackle box of oil paints contains way too many colors
Titanium White
Raw Umber
Burnt Umber
Pthalo Blue (makes a great black when mixed with burnt umber)
Ultramarine Blue
Cerulean Blue
Alizarin Crimson
Permanent Rose
Cadmium Red
Yellow Ochre
Raw Sienna
Naples Yellow
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Orange
Sap Green
Viridian Green
Prussian Green
Dioxazine Purple

Some of these I've used only once.

I've seen most of those painting shows. Most hilarious was Stefan Baumann's Grand View, for the ultra serious opening sequence.

The art of William Alexander and...

That's the name of his show in the late 1980s. There were three names that completed the title: Buck Paulson, Lowell Speers, and Robert Warren. Does anyone know (anyone who watched his show) if those three artists have any different colors that Mr. Alexander did not?

Crayola had burnt sienna and raw sienna, as well as raw umber but never burnt umber. I wonder why?

I remember seeing some guest artists on Bob Ross' show: his son Steve, crew-woman/floral artist Annette Kowalski, a Dana Jester, and an portrait artist who painted an Indian baby. I also remember the following (additional) colors that Mr. Ross never used:

-- Cadmium Red
-- Cadmium Red Light
-- Cadmium Orange
-- Cadmium Yellow Light (a similar color is on Bob Ross' palette)
-- Turquoise
-- Ultramarine Blue
-- Mauve
-- Burnt Umber (Bob Ross used this color early on)
-- Burnt Sienna (a similar color is on Bob Ross' palette)

Does anyone know if any other guest artists were on his show and if they used any additional colors that I might've missed?

UPDATE: I found all the following info on bobross.com. The following guest artists appeared on The Joy Of Painting (although the first series for some reason is not available on DVD):

-- Steve Ross (Bob's son; 9 appearances)
-- Dana Jester (3)
-- Diane Andre, Dorothy Dent, Audrey Golden, Annette Kowalski, Joyce Ortner, Ferne Sirois, Ben Stahl, and John Thamm (1)

Steve's and Dana's palettes were pretty much identical to Bob's, but Annette Kowalski had a totally different palette of colors (only Sap Green and Titanium White among others were used in her painting).

And I got to see Ferne Sirois paint an 'Indian Girl'. She used Indian Yellow for the background, Cad Red Light and Burnt Sienna for the face, Burnt Umber and Ivory Black for the hair, and a blue (she never mention which) to design the headband.

As for the other guest artists, I never got to see those episodes, so I don't what colors their palettes consisted. Perhaps anyone who has any of the show's DVDs (especially the 5th series where guest artists were rampant) could post on here any colors I might've missed...

Recently, there have been full-length episodes of Bob Ross' show on youtube.com. However, these British accounts seem to be obliterated on account of complaints from third parties.

That said, I managed to see episodes from the very first to somewhere in the 7th series. Here was Ben Stahl's palette when he painted a portrait on the show:

- Alizarin Crimson
- Vermillion
- Flesh Tint
- Lemon Yellow
- Maximum Green 8
- Cerulean Blue
- Cobalt Blue
- Burnt Umber
- Raw Umber
- Burnt Sienna
- Raw Sienna
- Black
- White
