As Canada's Conversation Radio Expands Again... Is the U.S. Ready To Try It?

The "Inside Radio" article says five Canadian stations have had success with the mix of Hot AC and Talk. It mentions Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. But it doesn't say the call letters of any of the stations. It says the format is catching on. But it doesn't cite any ratings reports.

And how is the format executed? Are there specific times each hour where the host or hosts talk for a while and times each hour when the station plays music? Does it follow the format only on weekdays or is someone talking nights and weekends too?

I'm old enough to remember when AM stations in the MOR (Middle of the Road) format wanted their DJs to chat several times each hour. It didn't want DJs to simply play song after song and only say a few words over song intros. Is the format similar on these stations?

I refer you to this thread, in which we have discussed the format in more detail. The general idea is that conversations mixed with music happen throughout the day. Also, I provide a link to an article that lists the five Conversation Radio stations in Canada.

What this what

am 640 • the beat of Toronto was

back in the early 90s ?
A good thought, except AM 640 (near the end of their beat of Toronto days)
had all talk driven timeslots and all music driven timeslots.
They did not have hours of "let's talk about this" in between songs.
They did put callers on the air, but conversation was very random in a music timeslot. Never focused on a specific topic in any one music driven hour.
