As I predicted...It's Z 100

in the discussion of where most of the Stern listeners would head that had no intention of paying for radio, I said they would return to where they originally came from in the 80s before Stern's ascent, Z 100...and, of course,I was RIGHT(as usual)!

Besides that.. Songs like "My Humps", Pussycat Dolls are too pop for Hot 97 or Power so you can only hear it on Z. No other station plays Pop Rock like Fallout Boy so theres another reason. Theyre really up on their Hip Hop and its only place to hear Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, etc. Theyre in a great position.

They are behaving like a TRUE Top 40 station, and that formula will always win, especially since the 'new music' people have migrated to the internet stations, satellite, and their own personal radio stations; I PODS!

What a concept... play the hits even if it doesn't fit your pre-conceived notion of what a hit should be. I agree... this is true Top 40 and every 15 years or so someone 'discovers' the format and becomes #1. Then they try to fit a "lean" or a "flow" and they flop.

Huh? Z100 barely moved up any. They're doing very well, but they've been doing well for years. I doubt there's much of a Stern effect there. Probably more of a lack of other current music on the radio that's helping them out. That and they continue to sound like a kickass CHR.

When you're up at the top, moving from 4 to 3 is bigger than moving from 17 to 9,as far as I'm concerned,as they've walloped both hip hop stations by stealing their hits, and re claiming the MTV audience.

Well done, well executed and on point. Hands down, the way a mainstream CHR should sound day, night and weekends. You'd think the rocket scientists would emulate it in markets where it would work.

But their actual share increase was negligible. I'm not really arguing with you because I agree the Z is doing a great job. I'm just saying that its more of a long trend of success than a big jump this period.
