.....as Rocky Point burns

There are probably a lot of radio-connected memories of Rocky Point, what with it being a favorite spot for remotes & concerts sponsored by stations. I think the last one I saw at The Paladium was Robert Cray in the early 90s & I'm pretty sure it was hosted by WRX...probably either Rick O'B or Rudy Cheeks but my memory is is hazy on that.

I found this gem, though, on the Howard Hoffman collection on reelradio.com:

Second photo down is Hoffman & Big John at a PRO-FM AC/DC concert in 1978. This one looks like it may have been an outdoor concert there.

The funhouse fat lady sang long ago but anyone else have any memories or stories?

I remember one occasion back in the early 70's when the WPRO-AM jocks did a day at Rocky Point culminating in a shaving-cream pie-in-the-face contest. I hit David (then Davey) Jones square on.

Runrigger, I'm pretty sure it was Rick OB you saw. As Rudy Cheeks came in when Bill Weston took over WRX in 1999.
PRO-FM was there alot in the 80's. I was watching WJAR earlier tonight. And Gene Valicenti was talking to a local historian about the park. I was shocked to learn that electricity was still being provided to that fully abandoned area.
You would think National Grid would of shut it off many years ago. I also recall. When WJAR did a story on the abandoned Ladd Center. They showed how patient records were left behind. And how people would trespass there on a regular basis. Causing damage & doing other illegal things. Its sad that some people have no respect for property. And given Rocky Point. Is sorta historical to many Rhode Islanders. No respect for its legacy.....

His talent fee probably went through the roof after that episode.

I remember seeing a number of great concerts at Rocky Point, not sure if any were radio-related: Survivor, Danger Danger, White Lion, Winger. What ever happened to the good old days?
