I find it interesting that owner/management of the local stations have so much time and money (whether its a trade or not it is still considered revenue)to spar over the validity of an inherently flawed ratings system for markets 200+.
Take that time and energy to pick up the phone and call Eastlan (a specialist in small market ratings and the only company with the balls to challenge arbitron and survive and grow which they are)and try to serve the advertisers and pd's with a tool that can help both grow.
How does the talent suffer? Advertisers are cutting back big time due to the increase in costs from oil and Katrina and Egg McMuffins. Therefore less remotes and a marked decrease in that perq money we all looked forward to to get us by. It is only going to get worse. Xmtrs work on electricity. Check the cost per kwh at bloomberg.com......it will open your eyes. Is the talent getting a raise or is that money for the electric bill to send that talent into the air...draw your own conclusions....On the bright side, talent has just gotten fabulous job security. No one is moving to the northeast to pay those ludicrous energy bills and sit in 2 feet of snow to gas up your 12 mpg 4wd at $3.25 per. So those of you who are happy in the valley-best of luck-just keep looking at that net pay number and watch it lose its buying power week by week.
Decison makers, don't forget the ladies and gentlemen that get you those numbers, flawed as they might be and give them a decent holiday bonus this year.
No one pays their rent with a turkey..........GIVE CASH and make the holiday really cheerful for the unsung heroes who are there to man the microphones whenever its needed. hint: if you are ordering those dreadful turkeys, you might want to get prices...9 weeks to thanksgiving
