ASHEVILLE IS SAFE...OR IS IT??

I saw the list of the 448 stations below market number 100 that Clear Channel was planning to sell, but I did not notice Asheville, NC in that list. Does that mean that Kiss, WWNC and the Qs are safe and, in the case of Clear Channel, just exactly what is safe?

Asheville is Market # 159....... I would say they are NOT safe

From what I understand, Asheville is a very profitable market for CC. They aren't selling "every" market under 100, but every market they are selling is under 100. Does that make sense?

Wow! This is the first time I've heard that you're "safe" as a part of Clear Channel! Guess at this juncture it's the devil you know. I would think if CC sells their Asheville properties, they would go to a smaller company or individual and they would be far more likely to be "safe". Certainly better than being a part of Cheap Channel! I have heard that the Market Manager makes all the difference, so maybe there are some good Managers at CC Asheville that causes the staff to feel "safe". I just know overall it's a big, unfeeling corporation. I'd like to hear Asheville employee's thoughts.

Let's face one very CLEAR fact. When it comes to Clear Channel absolutley NO ONE is safe.
This conglomerate has proven that time and time again!
I only know of one person who predicted the recent transaction and he has
already posted here.
LIFE, DEATH & TAXES - THE ONLY SURE THINGS IN THIS LIFE.

Ken Salyer, the GM of the Asheville CC cluster is a very talented and caring manager, from everything I've heard and from the conversations I've had with him. I have a few friends who work or have worked there, and they say it's not your typical CC cluster. Looking at their billing numbers in "Who Owns What", it looks like the cluster is doing VERY well.

Perhaps the CC Asheville cluster would be much more safe if it WAS on the divestiture list. Let's do the math...huge company gets acquired by two wall-street firms who have no history of running radio stations. Does this sound safe? Nope. I have my ideas about where this will lead three years from now, but there's no sense in me rambling about my opinion...nobody cares what I have to say :)

Working for Clear Channel is like being in a Nazi concentration camp! When every morning rolls around, and the door is being opened, you have to wonder if they are coming for you this time! Asheville is no different. Smoke and mirrors are abundant! Asheville isn't "safe" either. They will present that image very well, but just watch ;)

I agree with Stoker, Smoke and mirrors everywhere!! 8) I don't think they are totaly safe!!

I heard a story on NPR late last week about the Clear Channel deal and to paraphrase what they said is... the investors who are buying the stations will probably suck every last dime out of the already sucked-dry stations, then spit them to the curb. Doesn't sound too safe. Maybe for those who survive, they can hope that once the investors are done with them that they will be bought by someone who gives a s--t! Future doesn't look too bright. I feel bad for the handful of folks I know who are still clinging to CC.

This isn't Asheville, but lets talk about "safe"!! LOL When CC greases up, no one is! :D

WMYI-FM program director Greg McKinney was let go last week as part of corporate wide staff reductions by parent company Clear Channel Communications.
The adult contemporary wizard landed the PD gig at WMYI six years ago after being axed by Entercom owned WSPA-FM.
"Bill McMartin (GM) and Bruce Logan (Programming VP) questioned the intelligence of Entercom for getting rid of a pro like Greg," said a CC Greenville insider. "Now we do the same thing. It seems our stupidity matches theirs."
Mediachatter has learned from sources at Entercom Greenville that a job offer may be in the works for McKinney.
"There are lots of people here who would like to have Greg back," said an Entercom staffer. "Magic (WSPA-FM) hasn’t been the same since Greg was the PD. Now more than ever, the station needs someone with Greg‘s expertise and experience."
People close to McKinney say that he plans to enjoy the holidays before making any decisions about future employment.
