Ashville Saga

Why does it seem as though Saga/Asheville, NC advertises for a PD for its AC station every 4-6 weeks? Is the place toxic or what?

Seems to me there is a constant "help wanted" sign out at these stations. Right now they are looking for a General Manager and also a Program Director. Ashville is a really nice place but not sure it is a good radio town.

I had the misfortune to work at the old 1350 Black Mountain in the early 1980's. At that time the merchant / radio relationships were very "established" with little room for "outsiders". That was before Walmart (if they have reached Asheville yet) decimated a lot of local merchants. Most likely things have not gotten better. If I ever hit the lottery, Asheville would be a nice to live and possibly have a station to "play" with, but I would hate to owe a bank a bunch of money and try to make it there.

Did you work at 1350 when it was WBMS or WONO? Didn't a guy named Larry McKay work there? He worked a longtime at WHIS/WHAJ in Bluefield, WV.

Saga needs to look at broadcasters that have gotten their feet wet in the real broadcast world. Seems to me the higher ups at Saga have a constant neon sign out front of the station.
