ASHWOOD AILING

Agreed on the best wishes, listening to FSR over the years he's been mentioned and thanked many times by the network's hosts, he's also been a major part of the network's success in ther past. Again, best wishes and hopefully a full recovery.

BJ has always been larger than life. He transitioned from Bwana Johnny DJ, to BJ Hunter Program Director at KOOL FM and brought a new, fresh CHR presentation to the oldies format which was quite a feat for it's time and much copied. He was the ultimate party animal and host at a time when that was really saying something.

He transitioned to talk radio and managed to succeed in the Clear Channel corporate world. His next transition was to Network Radio...and quite successfully it seems.

Good Luck, BJ. Our prayers go out to you.

An old network friend.

The trades have reported that BJ passed away yesterday. Condolences go out to his family for their loss.

... not to be confused with Bwana Johnny from WWDJ; he passed in 2005.

So there were TWO Bwana Johnnys? I can see a dozen Rick Shaws or Cadillac Jacks. Two Bwana Johnnys? Now I've heard everything.

I posted this in another forum where there is a thread for Andrew.

I had no idea that Andrew even had cancer. This is sad news, indeed.

I worked for Andrew at WQAM in Miami. This is a guy who loved life and lived it to the fullest. Always fun to be around. We had some good times when he would practically take the whole station out to dinner and stuff. He really had an appreciation I think for radio as it was back in the day when I first started and long before then.

I was saddened to see this today. RIP.

An "Off The Cuff" comment in a jock meeting at "KOPA 100" in the mid-80's by BJ was one of the reasons I pursued a radio career as long as I did. Reggie Blackwell was the PD - he'd asked the jocks "How do we get people to listen longer?" I was a $3 per hr board op - raised my hand and simply said - "Make 'em think their gonna miss something?" - Beej shot a finger my direction & said - "Future Programmer!!" That simple act stuck with me my entire radio career.

From the fake phone calls - to the incessant "Wooly Bully" marathons - producing his morning show at KOOL was the part of my life where I learned to work. The guy had that kind of influence on people.

Gone WAY too early -

Kurt Kreiger (M C Scrappy, Marino, Johnny Walker, and even Chris Roberts in the old KOPA days!!)
