There's been a lot going on over the holidays and I haven't really been on the computer for entertainment but I've noticed that the ASP station webstream is not on. Was this site closed?
The audio stream for the old Heart and Soul of Pittsburgh format when AM Guys ran WZUM is dead. The automation is still running and the Icecast server is still running. The problem is the MP3 encoder dies after a few hours. The number of people who listened to the stream was between zero and one, mostly zero so the encoder was not replaced. I did purchase the parts to build a new encoder. Maybe I will move it up on the list of things to do this week.
The current encoder is a Barix MP3 encoder. It ran okay for many years feeding the decoder at the transmitter. It just doesn't like feeding an Icecast streaming server. The new encoder will be a Raspberry Pi 2 with a Behringer analog audio to USB encoder. The Raspberry Pi will run Linux and use Darkice to encode the audio. We used the combination of Darkice feeding Icecast on a FreeBSD system for many years. I think from 2004 until we sold the station last year. It was a solid combination of software.
I will post an update. I avoided posting before since this a forum on radio and this is only an Internet stream.
