Astros to stay on KTRH

Easy decision for the Astros' since no one else entered the race. Truthfully, the Astros and KTRH are good partners and it's good to see them stay. With that being said, paying for the broadcast rights to any professional team in this economy is risky at best. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Texans 7 year, $70 million deal (started with 2002 season) with CBS expires.

If it started with the 2002 season, shouldn't it have expired after the 2008 season, which was the franchise's seventh? Or does it cover eight seasons and seven years? That would make sense too.
I can't see Clear Channel going after the Texans. I guess that would mean bumping the Astros to 790 on Sundays, because I can't see the games going anywhere but 740 (and maybe a simulcast with the Arrow?) if CC gets them.

I believe the Texans deal with KILT runs for 10 years, so will be up after the 2011 season.

I pulled this off the Texans website so it looks like it won't be an issue for a few more years.

CBS Radio signed a 10-year agreement with the Houston Texans in September 2000. This agreement gave CBS Radio the exclusive right to broadcast Houston Texans Football games through the 2012 season and produce numerous ancillary programs featuring the team.

When, when, will they get rid of Milo?

To my ears Milo still sounds okay for his age, although I also can understand why many people find him annoying. He does have a bit of an ego.

And he has held up much better than, say, Jack Buck or Harry Carey did. Both men had long and distinguished careers, but stayed on too long and were absolutely awful on the air in their final years.

That's like saying our summers are a tad humid.
I would think Milo has held up better because he's taken better care of himself. Buck was a heavy smoker and Caray's drinking exploits are legendary. Other than that, I wouldn't put Milo in the same class with Buck or Caray. He comes across as a bitter old man with an ego too large for his own good. As a Cubs fan, I can't forgive him for the terrible things he said about Harry when the man died.

Unfortunately, the Astros let go the heir to Milo (Alan Ashby), and hired two minor market dweebs as Milo's lackeys. The radio broadcasts are just plain unlistenable with all the a$$ kissing going on in Milo's behalf, plus those guys can't carry a game without Milo. I know several friends who feel the same way, and wonder if KTRH's listener count is down for Astros games, bad team notwithstanding.

I couldn't disagree more with that last post! Doland and Michaels (I think that is his name) are adequet MLB broadcasters. I have found them knowledgeable and entertaining. With Milo's tenure you have to "pay homage" until the man retires, which should be soon. Milo's ego gets a bit more irratating the longer he goes on. I agree above that Milo damaged his rep by trashing Harry Carey after he died. There's no doubt, the two dispised each other, but if you have nothing good to say, well you know...

Fortunately the Astros have probably the best color analyst in all of MLB in Jim Deshais on TV. He make you look forward to every game whether it's good or not. For a 10th TV market, we are very lucky and as for radio, it's adequet enough.

And as an Astros fan, I'll never forgive Bud Selig for giving you guys 3 extra home games last year after Hurricane Ike. But that's for another thread.

I guess what I'm saying is that I couldn't care less what Cubs fans think of Milo. Last time I checked, he's an ASTROS announcer!

::)
I am really looking forward to Opening Day for more bitterness like that! Not Selig's fault you guys choked, just like it's not his fault the Cubs fell apart in the playoffs.
And for the record, it was two extra "home" games. The third game would have been played here but was deemed unnecessary after the Cubs clinched the division and the Astros were eliminated.
You don't have to care what Cubs fans think of Milo, nor do I necessarily expect anyone to. But I would like to hear the best possible work from the voice of the team in my town, and Milo simply can't bring that to the table anymore.
