AT-40 Girl songs

By any chance does anyone have a complete list of the songs Casey featured in the special AT-40 from 1977 that featured songs with girls names in the title? I only heard bits and pieces of the show on KJR FM this morning. I am sure the programming folks at KJR loved having the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Paul Anka, and Ritchie Valens playing on the station let alone Louis Armstrong and Debbie Reynolds! Someone not realizing it was an old AT-40 special might have thought they tuned into KIXI by mistake. It was a fun show to listen to, a refreshing change of pace, but I will welcome back the regular Classic AT-40 70s countdown next week.

Sorry, but I completely disagree. Having spice on a station is what makes me find it INTERESTING...and it's Sunday morning, for crap sake. Why is it radio folks have gotten SO worked up over every little nuance is going to cause tune-out? If a station is that close to teetering that one tiny thing will hack off your audience, then failure is imminent.

I miss stations that used to do "theme" weekends ... and used those weekends to play all kinds of stuff that you rarely heard on a regular basis. Then the "theme" weekends came back but always under the guise of super safe playlists. Same with the "request" shows --- all "safe" playlist songs, except 1-2 requested songs.

Remember when KLSY would do their radio-thon for charity and would play ANYTHING people requested? Those were the best specialty shows that station ever did because it was completely unpredictable ... which generates TSL.

Yes!

As much as I despise syndicated radio, the "True Oldies Channel" (you know, the one where Scott Shannon does every break 24/7), had a "Great American Road Trip Weekend". What a great idea for the 4th. They simply played tunes that had a U.S. location in the title or lyrics. And it worked! Sometimes, the simplest ideas is the best idea.

Yep...I do remember the radio-thons at KLSY, because I was there. Bruce, Tim & Alice went way beyond the call of duty staying up for so many looooong hours raising money for Make-A-Wish. And one year - 2000 I think - Tim had his laptop patched in to the board to play many of the songs...which he "borrowed" from Kazaa. Just don't tell anybody. LOL.

Oh, and since I was stationed at Southcenter to do live breaks from there, I pledged $100 of my own money for a request. It was "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson. When was the last time THAT song got any airplay?

There's a list of the songs over at http://www.957kjrfm.com

I think ANYTHING that livens up a pretty generic Classic Hits station like KJR-FM sometimes is worth the risk. It was just girl songs, not an Insane Clown Posse marathon.

The Make-A-Wish Radiothons were originally on KISW. John Lyle (KISW morning host in the late '80s, I think that was his name) hosted the first one in 1988. I shucked out some $$$ to hear them play "Go Away Little Girl" Donny Osmond. If KISW didn't have any strength behind them, I would have KILLED that station with that song.

So KJR-FM won't suffer for any of Casey Kasem's minor experimentation musically on AT40.......

Some of you either misread or misinterpereted my comments. As I stated, I too thought it was a refreshing change from the usual AT-40 70s countdown and a fun show. Definitely, MOST definitely a joy to hear over the usual programming at KJR FM. Thanks to those of you guiding me to the KJR-FM website for the complete list of songs played on that AT-40 special. I thought Mandy would have been ranked higher overall than it was.

I don't listen every Sunday, but I've enjoyed the last three weeks - July 1975, 1970 and 1977. Especially the 70 show. Interesting to hear how the show changed through the years. This week's show looks like another good one - August 1973 - one of my favorite summer's for top 40 music.
