At Least We're Not Utica

Looks like some controversy has been caused by a segment of Mayor Jeff Graham's radio show on 1240 WATN. In the segment Johnny Spezzano who is a morning host on WBDR 106.7 bashes Utica. The clip has been uploaded to Youtube:

WKTV has a story on it as well:

What do you think? I could see a random caller saying things like this, but Johnny Spezzano is a pretty well known radio name in Watertown.

So his "bashing" consists of claims that the roads in Utica are terrible, and that hookers hang out at the train station? Since both statements are true it's hard to get really offended.

On the other hand, it's de rigueur to jump aboard the derpa-derp outrage train if you're in the media. There's no downside, and a potentially lucrative upside.

Those women I saw outside the historic train station last time I passed through were hookers?

Ouch.

PS - Let's see what would happen to Watertown if they closed or seriously cut back Ft. Drum.

If the sun was up they probably weren't hookers. After dark it's a different story.

And you should probably check the size of their adams apple to make sure they're female. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it does cost extra.

I'd hate to think what a hooker in Utica would be like. I don't even want to think about it.

Seriously, Utica has some great neighborhoods. Plus, great suburbs like New Hartford, Whitesboro & Clinton and is only 45 miles from Old Forge and the Adirondacks. I don't think anyone in Watertown has the right to look down their noses at Utica. Too bad what most visitors to Utica see are burned out old factories.

The UPD Facebook page regularly posts arrest photos of the pros working the streets. They're just as horrific as you would imagine.

Utica's greatest asset is it's people. They're some of the kindest, most warm-hearted folks on the face of the earth.

The city's greatest flaw is it's leadership, or what passes for such. They continually embrace graft filled, pie-in-the-sky development projects while totally ignoring basic services. Sadly, the city is now beyond the point of no return. There's no possible way the municipality can generate enough tax revenue to pay the $300 million tab for bringing infrastructure like the sewer and road system up to modern standards.

Fixing sewer pipes is boring and hard. Flogging the derpa-derp is easy and gets headlines. We've already seen what the city's "leadership" prefers doing.
