AT&T planning low-cost ‘skinny bundle’ streaming service

Here is another bundle that AT&T is proposing for Directv users the skinny bundle streaming service its AT&T Watch.

AT&T Inc. plans to launch a “skinny bundle” of television channels without sports that will cost $15 a month, one of the lowest prices available for a nationwide streaming live TV plan.

The service, called AT&T Watch, was announced Thursday by Chief Executive Randall Stephenson, who used his time on the witness stand in a high-profile antitrust case to pitch the new plan.

AT&T Wireless subscribers would get the service free, Stephenson said. He didn’t specify which channels it would include or when it would be available. The CEO said he hopes to launch the service in the next few weeks.

AT&T T, -0.27% is in court to dispute the allegation that it will use its ownership of Time Warner Inc. to hurt pay-TV competition. Unveiling a low-cost plan helps the company’s case. The company has proposed buying Time Warner TWX, -0.65% for $85 billion.

i wonder if this is AT&T's plan for in the event they need to spin DirecTV to get the AT&T/Time Warner merger to finally go through, right now the merger is in legal hell and it's being held up by the US Government and a certain politician's feud with Time Warner's news outlet CNN.

and plus this thread does kinda belong to the "Internet TV" section since it is a form of streaming, which is what that forum section is devoted to anyway.

Unless a subscriber needs cable because of OTA difficulties I don't see where this "skinny bundle" makes any sense at all. Although we haven't seen the end line up of offerings on the skinny bundle it seems it won't be much different than any OTA viewer can get free in any decent market. Same old "classic" TV shows, garbage religious and online peddlers....same old, same old.

there are some think OTA TV went away after analog went away, some thing using an antenna is illegal, might be enough dumb people out there who don't watch more than OTA TV
