AT40 - the 70's gone?

There is no question the AT40 shows were edited. However, I doubt stations did much of it, it probably came directly from the producer, as the AT40-The 70's series has many of these edits still in evidence. This show is fascinating for an inside radio/chart listener, but probably bores the mainstream listener who just wants to hear the hits. (AT40-The 70's is full of hits and non-hits that research very poorly today)

I hope at some point Premiere will rebroadcast some of the special shows. I would love to hear the show where Dick Clark filled-in for Casey in the early 70s.
 
So, did KJR FM dump Classic AT-40? It usually airs right after Info Track on Sunday mornings but this morning, no Casey Kasem! I sure hope they haven't dropped it from their programming. It is really the only reason I tune in to KJR FM on the weekends.

Sure seems they dumped it. It's the second week in a row and there's no longer any mention of AT40 on their website. It was the only reason I ever tuned the dial to KJR-FM and it kept me tuned in (admittedly due to laziness) through Monday or Tuesday until I once again burned out on the same old songs over and over.

The upside to them no longer carrying it is A) I discovered TuneIn.com and its phone app where many stations around the country are still playing AT40 The 70s (and 80s) at various times over the weekend, and B) I've rediscovered KZOK's Breakfast With The Beatles. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy listening to Mike West -- what a great personality. Looks like KZOK's my new Sunday morning choice.

Well, unfortunately I don't have that technological advantage. I rely on my old fashioned radio, though aparently now I am going to have to make the switch to Satelite thanks to the boobs programming these terrestrial stations. At least I can listen to KMCQ's broadcast of Ted Alexander's 10,000 Oldies show on Sunday mornings. Its so typical of KJR FM to continually screw up their programming. Total buffoons.

You can use http://www.tunein.com on your computer. Clearly you're at a computer right now. I also can add that "103.1 Jack FM" in Salt Lake City Utah airs both AT40/70s and AT40/80s a few times over the weekend. My friend had the job of encoding those for a while.
 
I noticed the same thing this morning - and it is the only reason I ever tune in this station. A couple times I missed it in recent weeks, but was able to listen to it Tuesday evenings on WBBG, Youngstown, OH. I hope another Seattle station will pick it up, though. Would be perfect for KVI or KMCQ - but probably too expensive for the latter.

WBBG is the best station to catch the show.they air it on Saturday morning at 6am,Sunday at 8am and as mentioned Tuesday at 8pm.They also post the song list for each show on their website.

"Warning" They will pre-empted AT40 around the holiday season for their 24 hour Christmas music format.

As for being expensive, hardly. Most stations carry this show on barter, giving up a certain number of in-show commercials, perhaps with some extra barter commercials through other dayparts, usually night or all-night.

I looked at some of the other stations in the country airing At 40 the 70s. Odd times like Midnight, 3AM. It can't be that expensive and they cannot be worried too much about ratings for the show to program at those odd hours. The only reason I can think for KJR to have dropped it is that they want to prep to move more and more away from the Oldies again. God forbid we would hear songs during the 3 hour AT40 broadcast that KJR never plays in their very tight play list.
 
to those who get their AT 40 from XM/sirius. it was a "rare" treat this morning. featured was the album chart count down, from this week in 1972. the AT 40 music selected was about 1/3 album cuts, and 2/3 hit songs. some of the rarely heard 1972 album cuts getting airplay this week were: manasas/steven stills- rock n roll crazy, stevie wonder-i love every little thing about you, nilsson-spaceman,leon russell-roller derby, janis joplin-down on me, sanatan-marbles, jethro tull-thick as a brick, a gospel cut from aretha franklin- how i got over, and the number one album this week in 1972, was from elton john, and the song he played from it was called, salvation.
 
Odd. Why AT-40 would do this is beyond my comprehension. AT-40 was almost exclusively on top40 stations. Perhaps they were hearing threats from AOR during this particular era, and it was their response. However, if that was true, it was an unnecessary reaction, and probably got a negative reaction by top40 PD's of the time.
 
yep, i think the AT 40 album chart countdown, was just a brief experiment. how many of this type of show did they actually broadcast? at any rate, it was interesting to listen to.
